How you will create an impact

As an Inland Marine Underwriter at AIG you will be a key contributor to the existing portfolio and future growth of the portfolio. You will work closely with the Head of Inland Marine, Pacific in developing and enhancing underwriting and broker relationship skills with the potential for intrastate and interstate travel.

Key accountabilities will include but not limited to:

  • Responsible for the achievement of budgeted production objectives of the Marine Profit Centre.
  • Assist in handling all aspects of the Processing and the Administration of Marine Profit Centre including production Estimates, debtors over 90 days and unallocated cash.
  • Liaise with Manager to facilitate provision of current month, quarter and year to date production estimates for all minor lines
  • Timely completion of monthly reporting of production and development activity, market intelligence and strategy
  • Maintenance of activity records of quotations and strike rates
  • Appropriately develop individual production budgets, visitation schedules, action plans in accordance with corporate direction
  • Assist in the implementation business plans in accordance with corporate direction.
  • Assist in the operations to ensure adherence to corporate guidelines
  • Maintain agreed production targets by establishing accurate target listings by individual lines of business and utilizing Strategic Selling initiatives to achieve results
  • Develop annual strategic account targets and detailed action plans for each Line of business in the Marine segment
  • Risk Assessment and underwriting of Renewal Business and binding, presenting and issuance of terms and binding as required
  • Identification, underwriting of New Business and binding, presenting and issuance of terms and binding
  • Preparation and issuance of Policy wording documentation endorsements and other required documents and ensuring they are in accordance with corporate guidelines
  • Completion, checking and issuance of documentation, underwriting worksheets, cover notes, insurance certificates in accordance with corporate guidelines
  • Input of Quote Register data into Corporate system
  • Referral of Renewal or New Business to Regional Product Line Manager which falls outside of underwriting authority
  • Responsibility for quality, accuracy and completion of entries for accounts allocated into the GOALS system
  • Maintain the integrity of all underwriting disciplines of all Marine business
  • Ensure the maintenance / development of solid working relationships with all major clients and brokers of allocated accounts and potential new accounts, in the region
  • Identification of business opportunities for other profit centres to support the companies cross marketing strategy
  • Liaise with administration staff, legal, claims, finance and accounting and any other services centre to ensure awareness of underwriting and business activities support standards required.
  • Leverage resources in NZ, the Region and Worldwide to continue to enhance the value proposition and market share in the segment

What you’ll need to succeed

  • Relevant experience in the Marine market
  • Experience Inland Marine with a willingness to develop an understanding of in Marine Cargo, Marine Liability and any other new Marine products that may be developed.
  • Experience of understanding and executing underwriting guidelines, rating algorithms and product development preferred.
