This position is part of a team tasked with supporting and maintaining IT equipment, including audio-video (AV) systems, in various learning environments such as classrooms, labs, conference spaces, including the Interprofessional Simulation Center of the Health Campus. Responsibilities encompass operating, maintaining, distributing, installing, configuring, repairing, and upgrading electronic products to ensure optimal performance. In line with IT Services' commitment to the GVSU community, the incumbent will troubleshoot reported issues promptly and accurately while providing necessary end-user training and assistance. Additionally, this role will manage AV projects from start to finish, covering evaluation, recommendation, design support, implementation, training, and maintenance. The incumbent will serve as the primary Information Technology point of contact for the Health Campus, delivering direct support to students, faculty, and staff on all computer and AV-related matters.
PRIMARY DUTIES
- Provide hands-on desktop and AV support throughout the health campus. Supervise a team of student employees by hiring, managing schedules and providing mentorship as well as coaching in various technical activities.
- Develop and conduct user training sessions and document instructional materials for new equipment, training end users and onboarding faculty accordingly.
- Collaborate with internal IT teams and third parties to support and resolve technical issues in university spaces.
- Maintain accurate inventory of software, hardware settings and configuration logs of AV and simulation equipment across campuses.
- Support various modalities of learning, including in-person, remote, hybrid, and distance learning, ensuring optimal educational environments.
- Manage IT and AV projects, focusing on the design and installation for classrooms, labs, conference rooms, and event spaces within the Health Campus.
- Prepare, maintain, and update project documentation, specifications, technical diagrams, and layouts, including the creation of instruction manuals for the new simulation equipment.
- Test, inspect, and ensure operational capacity of IT and simulation equipment including the documentation of improvements and sustainability needs.
- Participates in the Simulation Center’s monthly team meetings. Perform other duties as required or assigned by manager.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Bachelor's Degree or 3+ years of equivalent training or experience.
- Minimum 2 years of related experience in IT support, focusing on AV equipment and peripheral repairs, installation, and troubleshooting within a business, events, or education setting.
- Experience with PC and Mac operating systems, hardware, software, and computer peripherals.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of electronics and professional electronic testing equipment.
- Proficiency in AV systems and a good understanding of TCP/IP concepts.
- Obtains a Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) certification form the Society for Simulation in Healthcare within 2 years of hire.
- Experience in developing system or signal flow diagrams.
- Experience working with contractors and vendors to implement projects.
- Ability to commute between campuses to troubleshoot, configure, repair, or move equipment and systems.
- Ability to position oneself on ladders and floors, inspect delicate connections, and maintain a stationary sitting or standing position.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 30 pounds.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Experience with the following manufacturers: Neat, Logitech, Shure, Extron, Crestron, Biamp.
- Experience working in a higher education institution.
- Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) or equivalent certification and experience.
Salary: Minimum starting salary of $58,656; commensurate with experience
