Job Summary:

To coordinate and manage the financial aspect of the transplant program. To maximize financial reimbursement for transplant services rendered. Serves as a resource and financial counselor for transplant candidates and their families.

Education & Experience

Education and Experience Required:

Degree (Associate's or Bachelor's) and two (2) years of experience in medical or third-party billing.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Proficient knowledge of medical billing bundled billing medical claims processing, insurance verification processes, and multiple insurance plan standards and regulations. Knowledge of coding. Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills. Knowledge of government assistance programs. Skill in the use of computers and related software applications. Interpersonal skills. Verbal and written communication skills. Math skills. Ability to explain available financing options.

Responsibilities

  • Meets with transplant candidates and/or families to explain insurance coverage, treatment costs, and hospital billing policies. Ensures that adequate insurance benefits or funding arrangements are in place prior to transplant.
  • Provides quality service to patients by offering comprehensive and ongoing financial counseling. Serves as a resource to transplant candidates, their families, and living donors regarding transplant payor benefits, billing issues, alternative funding options, and personal financial responsibilities related to the transplant.
  • Identifies administrative and financial issues involving reimbursement for transplant-related services. Interfaces with transplant candidates and their families, transplant teams, third-party payors, relevant internal departments, and other clinical and administrative staff. Develops and recommends procedures associated with transplant-related administrative and fiscal matters.
  • Assists transplant candidates in meeting expenses for transplants through fundraising, completion of Medicare/Medicaid/disability applications, indigent funding, and other available resources.
  • Verifies the accuracy and completeness of relevant financial, insurance, and demographic information for transplant-related outpatient encounters and inpatient transplant admissions to ensure that accounts are secure prior to discharge.
  • Obtains all necessary information required by payors for approval of different phases of transplantation, including benefit verification, payor authorization, referrals, pre-certification, and case management.
  • Develops and recommends administrative and fiscal procedures associated with transplantation.
