JOB SUMMARY:

Assists the pharmacist and other hospital staff in providing the safest and highest quality care to patients. This will be accomplished by applying training, knowledge and specialized skills to the medication distribution process.  Works as a team with pharmacists and other pharmacy technicians as well as assists nursing staff as needed to provide an integrated multidisciplinary service. Duties include , filling physician orders, answering phones, delivering medications, and other duties as directed by a pharmacist or supervisor. Will also assist in training new employees.


REPORTS TO:


JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Accurately process medication orders and requests, gather and dispense medications, and
deliver drugs to appropriate units.
• Help control inventory in the pharmacy.
• Maintain all pharmacy logs daily.
• Maintain work and break areas in a clean, orderly, and safe manner.
• Train other employees and/or pharmacy students as directed by pharmacists or supervisor.
• Maintain good relations with pharmacy and non-pharmacy personnel.
• Answer the phones, screen calls for pharmacists, provide information (within realm of licensing
ability) in a manner consistent with the "Standards of Excellence".


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Graduation from high school or equivalent. Previous hospital or pharmacy experience is preferred. Will give secondary consideration to any combination of training and experience which requires accuracy, concentration, and discipline.


REQUIRED LICENSURES/CERTIFICATIONS/REGISTRATIONS:

Registration as a certified pharmacy technician with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy is required.


SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Excellent verbal, typed, and written communication skills required.
• Must have a working knowledge of pharmacy and medical terminology
• Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-
workers and supervisors.
• Will maintain a professional, ethical, and effective working relationship with all employees.


INTERACTION WITH OTHER DEPARTMENTS AND OTHER RELATIONSHIPS:

Works closely with clinics, nursing units, EMS units, other hospitals, and various other departments.


PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES:

Work is of medium demand, walking and standing a great deal of time. May occasionally be asked to lift objects weighing up to fifty pounds. Near visual acuity required.


ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Hours of duty may be irregular to accommodate departmental requirements.
