The Export/Import Compliance Specialist serves as the Customs compliance subject matter expert and provides support related to import / export activities, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations and best practices. This role reports into the Director, Customer Experience.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for coordinating all activities involved in export/import regulatory compliance including, but not limited to, ECCN product classifications, harmonized tariff classifications, country of origin determination, TRAX Compliance screening, obtaining and reviewing end use statements for exports, Electronic Export Information (EEI) filings and sanctioned party list screening.
  • Interfaces with internal / external customers, foreign subsidiaries, distributors, vendors, brokers and carriers to ensure compliance with all applicable import / export regulations.
  • Responsible for maintaining internal controls program to ensure compliance with federal and foreign regulations governing the shipment, receipt and documentation of imported/exported products.
  • Determines product eligibility for multiple trade agreements.
  • Participates in continual improvement process related to Compliance Program and manages document revisions of internal controls and procedures.
  • Participates in compliance audits and implements any necessary corrective actions.
  • Strong collaboration with Accounting, Legal, Claims, Sales, Receiving & Shipping, and Purchasing is required.
  • Maintains general awareness of production and other factors affecting scheduling and delivery of orders.
  • Fosters an environment which promotes AFS’s goals, values and operating modes and encourages continuous improvement
  • Performs other duties as required, including occasional backup support of CS activities
  • Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company
  • Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description, and supervisor’s instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or two (2) to four (4) years related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five (5) to seven (7) years related Import/Export compliance and regulation experience

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Demonstrate good organizational skills and good follow-up techniques
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Basic math requirements, including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
  • Excellent customer relations skills
  • Must be able to work independently much of the time – as well as working in a team environment
  • Intermediate computer skills
  • Demonstrate responsibility, respect, dependability, patience, and productivity in order to create a positive work environment
  • Exhibit teamwork, while providing support and leadership
  • Must be available, approachable and represent the company in a positive manner at all times
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others and maintain composure and a professional approach when dealing with others

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.
     

Travel:

  • 10-15% Domestic.
