The Senior Associate Provost for University Libraries and Educational Technologies provides strategic leadership and management of the Academic Commons, including University Libraries, Archives and Special Collections, Instructional Design, Educational Technology Support, Media Services, and Professional Writing and Communications teams. This position oversees a budget of over $12 million and direct/indirect management of 68 full- and part-time staff, excluding student workers.Job Description
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
Collaborate with university deans to expand educational reach through technology, increasing enrollment and community outreach.
Participate in university research committees and initiatives.
Represent the university and colleges in national organizations.
Complete Department of Education data collection requirements and various library and academic program accreditation requirements.
Work with VPs and staff within the Information Services and Technology division.
Partner with University Counsel on policy matters related to library and edtech systems, including licensing agreements.
Assist with student and faculty data collection on academic engagement and performance within LMS and testing systems and manages data transfer and retention in Jefferson’s data lake for longitudinal analysis.
Advise the provost on library and educational technology trends and budget expectations.
Assist and advise the Jefferson Health System on meeting their information resource needs.
Work with GME leaders to assure we have the information resources to meet accreditation standards for our residency and fellowship programs.
Work with our Office of Institutional Advancement on donor relations around library and archive needs.
Essential Functions
Interact with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
Consult with faculty and deans in the design of new instructional spaces and oversight of the teams responsible for classroom AV and technologies.
Consult with faculty and staff on the use of library resources, educational technologies, emerging AI.
Oversight of the Academic Commons budget.
Support new university initiatives, primarily focused on education, continuing professional development, simulation, and assessment.
Coordinate the IS&T Security and Legal reviews for library and edtech licenses.
Participate in national, local and affiliated organizations.
Participate in university and Jefferson Health committees and initiatives.
Candidate Qualifications
Education and Experience
Candidate must hold a PhD or EdD in Education, Library and Information Science, or an equivalent field, and bring a minimum of seven years of experience in an academic library leadership role — preferably in an academic medical library — along with a background in educational technology operations or leadership; experience with IT governance or working with IT at a partnership level; prior teaching experience in higher education is desirable.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to their own professional development as well as that of their staff, actively support diversity, equity, and inclusion, and bring proven experience managing a large team, along with familiarity with library and educational systems, education policy, and academic leadership.
Proven experience in stewardship of financial, personnel, and facility resources, with complex budgets, through collaborative engagement between libraries and university administrators.
Strong leadership and management skills with a clear understanding of the principles of administration, supervision, and budgeting within a library and learning resources environment.
A track record of building and motivating high-performing teams, and proven ability to effectively lead and manage organizational change in a complex higher education environment.
A firm grasp of emerging trends and technology relevant to library/learning resources, with experience integrating new technologies to improve library services and user experience.
Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively engage diverse stakeholders and create a compelling vision for diverse audiences including senior leadership, deans, faculty, students and external partners.
Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving capabilities, with a commitment to fostering an inclusive academic environment, and the ability to navigate complex organizational structures and influence decision-making processes.
