Role Summary
The Pre-Production Launch Coordinator at Magna Engineered Glass supports the Launch Program Manager in facilitating the pre-production deliverables as defined in the Product Delivery Process (PDP), starting in Phase 2 through Phase’s 5/6. Key facilitator in the hand-off process to the Production Team for Customer production ramp and SOP.
Job Purpose:
Manages the core inputs and outputs of the Pre-Production process focused on component management, build event coordination, production process and system interface, development and event scheduling.

Program Type / Complexity: New Launch Product
Process: PDP Magna Corporate Launch System (Phases 2 – 5/6)
Responsibility: Launch Team Support as directed by Program Manager
Job Qualifications:
Education (must): 2-year College Associate Degree or Technical School Certificate
Years of Experience (must): 1 – 3 Years
Microsoft Tools (must): Proven Skills in EXCEL, Power Point, Word, etc.
Travel (as required): Minimal – usually local Equipment Integrators
Work Environment (must): Be willing and physically capable of working in the manufacturing environment, “on the floor’ for extended periods as necessary, supporting the Pre and Postproduction Build and Launch Activities. Must also be willing to do the same at the Customers location if requested. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
Verbal and Written Communication (must): Developing / Experienced ability to participate / lead cross department functional discussions on key events and core job deliverables.
Direct Customer / Supplier Experience: Limited / Developing primarily with Component Suppliers managing pre-production build orders and inventories.
New Product Launch Experience: Limited / Developing
Gated Launch Experience: Limited / Developing
Automotive OEM Experience: Limited / Developing
Core Skill Requirements:
1) Supports and understands the (eBOM and mBOM) Bill of Material Release (Product Engineer (PE) – release responsibility) and tracking for Pre-Production Customer and internal Testing / Trial events.
2) Supports the Supplier Purchasing Department (Supplier Commodity Buyers – have ultimate responsibility) and facilitates the Component Ordering of requirements for pre-production build events.
3) Supports and manages the component material requirement date (MRD) tracking (Supplier Commodity Buyers – have ultimate responsibility) and provides direct contact with the Supplier, if necessary, to confirm plan to schedule and change to plan / scope events.
4) Manages the receival of components, proper storage and revision control within the Engineering Crib or other designated areas / Integrators build locations. Monitors Scrap and Rework counts during all events.
5) Supports and gains understanding of varied equipment, process and product characteristics and is willing and able to provide team input on observations and ideas to improve operation conditions and or problem resolution.
6) Develop, communicate and coordinate advanced planning for upcoming builds “well in advance” of the event with all effected supporting departments (ie. Mfg., Quality, Packaging, Materials, Shipping. Etc.)
7) Supports the build event plan and execution for tooling / equipment trials and Customer Deliverables at the PM’s direction.
8) Customer Packaging Requirements - Supports the packaging and shipping of required Customer deliverables in the proper approved format (Packaging Eng. – design / procurement / release responsibility). Also confirms proper interior and exterior labeling requirements and execution.
9) Supports the PEs in building required assemblies for DV and PV testing events.
10) Supports the creation of and or tracking of required manufacturing cell paperwork and documentation requirements to support varied build events, in conjunction with the PE, Industrial Eng., Mfg. Eng. and Mfg. Quality Eng.
11) Supports and facilitates the organization and material prep for all internal and external build events: SAT/ FAT at integrator, Burst Builds, Customer R@R.
12) Has the ability to manage multiple launching programs at one time, varied products and potentially multiple Program Managers and Customer’s.
13) Proven ability to Communicate in a professional manor amongst peers and varied levels of Department Leaders.
14) Supports the Materials Department in managing and transferring the Engineering build components and assemblies into the production tracking an ERP systems.
15) Coordinate and execute the overall transfer of PLC specific responsibilities from the Pre-Production to Production.
16) Works within the Quality Systems to assure “Safe Launch” (Customer Launch Quality Eng. – ultimate responsibility) and any additional Customer requirements are met prior to shipping. Understands Gauge design / function and can perform gauge checks with the support of Quality direction and leadership.
17) Team Leader Support – Aids in the training of product line specific line function and systems that the PLC has experience in. Key handoff event is for Customer R@R approval and final PPAP approvals.
Key Note: The Program Manager holds ultimate responsibility for the completion of all these tasks but provides leadership and tactical direction to the PLC to assure these elements get completed.
