About the Team:

The Bluetooth R&D team at Silicon Labs develops and maintains Bluetooth protocol stack software supporting Bluetooth Classic and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). The team delivers scalable, standards-compliant Bluetooth solutions used across a wide range of applications, including data connectivity, device control, and audio use cases such as Classic Audio, HFP calling, and LE Audio.

The team works closely with controller, PHY/RF, systems, validation, and customer-facing teams across multiple global locations to ensure high-quality, interoperable Bluetooth software for Silicon Labs wireless products.

The Role:

Silicon Labs is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to work on Bluetooth stack development for both Bluetooth Classic and BLE. This is a hands-on technical leadership role focused on driving the design, implementation, and evolution of Bluetooth stack features, with an emphasis on architecture, correctness, interoperability, scalability, and maintainability.

The role requires technical ownership of key Bluetooth stack areas, collaboration across multiple engineering disciplines, mentoring of engineers, and leadership in solving complex technical challenges. The role also encourages a modern development mindset, including effective use of tooling and AI-assisted development approaches to improve engineering productivity and quality.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of Bluetooth protocol stack software for Classic and BLE.
  • Drive architecture and technical direction for Bluetooth stack features and subsystems.
  • Implement and enhance Bluetooth features and profiles, including GATT, GAP, L2CAP, SMP, and audio-related profiles.
  • Lead Bluetooth stack support for a range of use cases, including data, control, and audio-related profiles such as HFP, Classic Audio, and LE Audio.
  • Drive resolution of complex interoperability, qualification, customer, and system-level issues.
  • Work closely with controller, systems, platform, and validation teams to ensure end-to-end Bluetooth functionality.
  • Lead root-cause analysis and resolution of customer-reported issues.
  • Mentor and guide engineers through design reviews, code reviews, debugging, and technical problem solving.
  • Collaborate with architects, product management, and cross-functional teams to define technical solutions and execution plans.
  • Contribute to documentation, technical knowledge sharing, and engineering best practices within the team.
  • Drive efficient development practices and leverage modern tooling, including AI-assisted development techniques, while maintaining high standards of code quality, maintainability, and robustness.

Skill Set:

  • Strong embedded software development experience with C/C++.
  • Deep understanding of Bluetooth Classic and Bluetooth Low Energy architecture and protocols.
  • Strong experience working on Bluetooth host stack components and protocols.
  • Experience leading the design and delivery of complex embedded software features from concept through production.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills across protocol, firmware, and system layers.
  • Familiarity with RTOS-based systems and multi-threaded embedded software.
  • Good understanding of MCU concepts, including interrupts, memory architecture, peripherals, and performance optimization.
  • Awareness of memory, power, and scalability considerations in embedded systems.
  • Experience driving technical discussions, design reviews, and engineering best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to think beyond obvious solutions and proactively drive technical initiatives to completion.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction across teams.
  • Familiarity with AI concepts, including understanding of AI context, models, and GenAI-based development tools, and how they can be used responsibly to improve productivity, analysis, and software development workflows.
  • Good communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively in a cross-functional and globally distributed team.
  • Exposure to Bluetooth controller concepts is a plus.
  • Experience with Bluetooth qualification, interoperability testing, and customer-facing issue resolution is a plus.
  • Experience with LE Audio architecture and related profiles is highly desirable.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience), with 6+ years of experience in embedded or wireless software development, including significant experience in Bluetooth Classic and/or Bluetooth Low Energy protocol stack development. Demonstrated experience leading complex technical initiatives and mentoring engineers is required.
