Summary :

The Childbirth Educator provides education and instruction to expectant parents to prepare and support them for childbirth, newborn care, sibling acceptance, and parenting. Serves as a resource to ThedaCare team members, community, and other healthcare professionals reflecting evidence-based best practice pertaining to childbirth and newborn care.

Job Description:

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Identifies learning needs of class participants, community, and team members to inform of curriculum and establish teaching plans.

  • Utilizes evidence-based best practice to inform and instruct customers and the community about childbirth, newborn care, sibling acceptance, and parenting.

  • Maintains knowledge base of current childbirth education approaches and techniques.

  • Collaborates with education department and unit leadership to integrate changing OB unit practices into education curriculum.

  • Conducts class evaluations to understand content delivery and training effectiveness.

  • Completes any required documentation on time and accurately using current technology.

  • Respectfully addresses situations or decisions to ensure customer concerns or needs are met, and escalates unmet concerns as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A licensed health professional (RN, APRN, Physician, etc.) or degree in education or related field

  • Two years of clinical experience

  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)

  • Current professional license as appropriate

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of fifty (50) pounds without assistance

  • Job classification is exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Climate controlled office setting with daily movement throughout the facility

  • Interaction with department members and other healthcare providers

SCHEDULE:

  • One Saturday per month requirement 8-5:30p

UNIT DETAILS (Labor & Delivery - Neenah Hospital):

This is the high risk birth center for the ThedaCare system because Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin has a level 3 NICU within our hospital. The unit provides level 2 obstetric care and level 1 nursery care. ThedaCare Neenah averages about 1500 deliveries/year. The unit has 17 LDRP rooms and 11 antepartum/postpartum rooms.
