INTRO TO POSITION

The DevOps Engineer we’re looking for works on a cross-discipline team to build products, services, or tools to support the NPR Digital Network.

They should have good working knowledge of Linux or Unix based server administration, experience with several scripting languages, and a working knowledge of common open source automation and orchestration tools and technologies.  This person should also have experience with cloud based technologies, tools, and services.

This is a union-represented role covered under the terms of a collective bargaining agreement with NABET-CWA DMU

The DevOps Engineer we’re looking for is a jack of all trades with knowledge in Linux based operating systems, servers, networking, and storage infrastructure. A desire to automate redundant tasks is a must. Someone that enjoys learning and, while figuring it out on your own is great, doesn’t mind asking questions and collaborating with others to come up with long term solutions. No living in a hot-fix only world. 

Our work is in the cloud as well as on-prem. We love open-source tools where they make sense and try to make responsible decisions. A love of documentation and a show-and-tell attitude

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have 2 to 3 years of relevant work experience 
  • Fluency in Linux administration
  • Fluency in IAAC scripting languages and other administrative based languages
  • Virtualization experience
  • Experience with database administration and troubleshooting
  • Understanding of different storage types and technologies
  • CDN experience
  • Excellent documentation skills - beautiful diagrams
  • willingness to be in an on-call rotation

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • experience with monitoring tools integrations and setup
  • experience with migrating applications 

WORK LOCATION

  • Hybrid Permitted: This is a hybrid permitted role. Some aspects of this role include duties that are better performed at an NPR facility. The employee will be required to be onsite at the Washington, DC office at least 10 days a year. The employee must also reside in an NPR supported location based on the number of onsite days they choose.

JOB TYPE

  • This is a full time, exempt position.

COMPENSATION

Salary Range: The U.S. based anticipated salary range for this opportunity is  $107,300.24  - $122,587.66  plus benefits. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum salaries NPR expects to provide for new hires for the position across all US locations.
