The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As an operational privacy program and incident response lead, you will have the opportunity to leverage your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse individuals globally by managing and coordinating privacy programs and initiatives within the organization. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Implementing and maintaining an enterprise third-party privacy risk management program to ensure that all external partners comply with our privacy standards.
  • Serving as the global privacy incident response lead, taking charge of managing and resolving privacy incidents efficiently and effectively.
  • Staying ahead of the curve by continuously learning about industry best practices and evolving privacy regulations to keep our privacy programs up to date.
  • Tackling complex privacy challenges, providing strategic solutions and actionable insights to business units to address privacy concerns.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including Legal and IT, to embed privacy considerations into business processes and technological innovations.
  • Engaging in privacy-related projects, contributing your expertise to enhance our privacy framework and ensure robust data protection.
  • You will be at the forefront of 3M's Privacy Compliance Organization, ensuring the integrity and effectiveness of our global privacy compliance program. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the way we handle personal data and uphold privacy standards. Your contributions will not only influence 3M's operations but also reinforce our commitment to ethical data management.
  • You will work closely with the Privacy Compliance Director and Chief Privacy Officer’s organization to oversee the operational aspects of the global privacy program, and assist with implementing compliance controls imposed by governmental, industry, contractual, and/or 3M internal Standards. The privacy program and incident response lead will form partnerships with groups in areas such as procurement, cybersecurity, legal, IT, functional business units, and project teams and provide consultation to the business process owner on ways to close compliance gaps or mitigate risk.

Your Skills and Expertise 
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start)
  • Five (5) years of managing a privacy compliance program in a private, public, government or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Seven (7) years of third-party privacy risk management and incident response experience in a private, public, government or military environment
  • Certifications demonstrating privacy compliance expertise (e.g., CIPP, CIPM)

Skills include:

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a globally distributed team, but also to complete tasks individually, with limited direction and guidance.
  • Ability to interact with a variety of internal and external stakeholders in a professional manner, and to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to analyze systems for data privacy compliance concerns, and to understand and solve business problems while managing associated risks and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to establish priorities, balance multiple tasks and deadlines at one time, handle competing priorities, maintain documentation and follow through on all open items/tasks.
  • Basic knowledge of privacy laws such as GDPR, CCPA, LGPD, PIPL, etc.

  • Hybrid Eligible (Job Duties allow for some remote work but requires on-site presence at the Maplewood, MN or Austin, TX campus at least one day per week). Maplewood, MN or Austin, TX
