Our Engineers at the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing facility take our aircraft from concept to customer delivery – working with production teams on every aspect of assembly from managing technical information, quality control, maintenance tasks and health & safety – along flowlines and flightlines. Your Working Environment: Mobile, AL

On ‘Airbus Way’ you will find the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility for commercial aircraft. Opened at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley in 2015, the facility produces A320 Family aircraft and added a second product line for the A220 in 2019. The facility, which strengthens the U.S. aerospace industry, is part of Airbus’ strategy to enhance its global competitiveness by meeting the growing needs of its customers in the United States and beyond.

Position Summary:

This position supports the development and customization of aircraft cabin and cargo interiors for airline customers. Duties includes performing engineering design, analysis and integration of aircraft interior components from initial conceptual phase to final product installation, and providing engineering support to airline customers in the operation of the aircraft. 

Your Challenges:

  • Technical Solutions: 95%

    • Autonomously perform routine to moderate levels of of design solution development. Team assignments may include detail part design, layout maturation, trade study analysis, certification activity, or in-service support.

    • Create or modify technical documents within various Airbus computer based applications with high quality and efficiency.

    • Collaborate with appropriate Airbus departments to develop optimum solutions. Perform functional and technical tasks with general direction.

    • Create and deliver technical documents and presentations with limited direction.

    • Accept broad objectives with agreed deadlines, but establish the tasks required and how they should be completed. Capable of working independently.

    • Effectively communicates issues, solutions, ideas, and status of current work internally and externally.

Other duties as assigned:

  • Additional Responsibilities: 5%

    • Identify and support local improvement initiatives to increase team efficiency through process, methods and tools improvements.

Your Boarding Pass:

Required Education:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Engineering (Aero, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical) 

Preferred Education

  • Master’s Degree in an Engineering discipline.

Required Experience

  • Minimum six (6) years total experience in design of cabin and cargo equipment and/or system installation projects.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience working with Airlines and/or MRO.

Travel Required

  • 5% Domestic and International.

Qualified Skills:

Required Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities

  • Frequently uses widely known technical principles, theories, and concepts to solve technical problems.

  • Capable of working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment both independently and collectively.

  • Dependable, self-motivated and accessible.

  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical procedures and bill of material systems to develop project plans.

  • Basic knowledge of Regulatory Requirements pertaining to aircraft design, certification and maintenance.

  • Able to provide technical guidance of routine to low complexity range of problems.

  • Capable of creating and delivering technical documents and presentations without guidance.

  • Strong computer background, including Google Suite application experience (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail)

  • 3D Modeling Experience (CATIA or 3D experience preferred)

  • Working knowledge of cabin interior product development.

  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbal and written)

  • Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interface with all levels of personnel and disciplines. 

  • Effectively communicates issues, solutions, ideas, and status of current work internally and externally.

Preferred Communication Skills (Spoken, Written, Influencing, Proficiency in Other Languages):

  • Conversational French and/or German.

Physical Requirements:

Vision: able to see and read computer screen and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings.

Hearing: able to hear to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on production floor including safety warnings or alarms.

Speaking: able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications.

Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment and some tools including production tools such as hydraulic lifts.

Carrying: able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.

Lifting: able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.

Pushing / Pulling: able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools.

Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on computer.

Squatting / Kneeling: able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.

Standing: able to stand for discussions in offices or on production floor.

Travel: able to travel independently and at short notice.

Walking (include routine walking such as to a shared printer to retrieve documents): able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces.
