DEPARTMENTAL SUMMARY:

The St Charles Health System Pharmacy provides a broad range of inpatient and outpatient pharmaceutical care services to ensure safe and effective medication use.  

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Coordinates the procurement and inventory control for medications, solutions, and supplies for the St Charles Health System pharmacy enterprise.

This position does not directly manage any other caregivers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

Coordinates the procurement of medications, supplies, solutions, and equipment for all pharmacy service lines.

Maintains systems to monitor and analyze inventory levels. Recommends and implements changes to optimize inventory and decrease waste. Reports key metrics such as inventory turns, stock outs, expirations, etc.

Monitors purchases for formulary and 340B compliance. Maintains product alignment between campuses.

Maintains systems to monitor transfer of medications; ensuring documentation for 340B compliance and chain of custody.

Maintains systems to anticipate, recognize, communicate, and mitigate the impact of drug shortages.

Maintains systems to track and report supply expenses related to formulary changes, waste, and shortages.

Maintains compliance with purchasing contracts.

Tracks and analyzes purchasing and drug spend reports. Recommends improvement opportunities.

Coordinates physical inventory processes.

Ensures purchased items follow change-control processes.

Ensures compliance and record keeping requirements with regulatory agency standards for Medication Management for drug procurement, storage, recalls, returns, and pharmaceutical waste.

Trains pharmacy caregivers on medication procurement and inventory control. Mentors and develops others to perform essential job functions and duties.

Participates in emergency and disaster planning. Serves as liaison with external agencies.

Maintains relationships with vendors. Networks and collaborates with internal and external supply chain partners.

EDUCATION                 

Required: High school diploma or GED

Preferred: BS or BA degree

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION

Required: Oregon pharmacy technician license. Valid Oregon driver’s license and ability to meet SCHS driving requirements

EXPERIENCE

Required: Five (5) years pharmacy technician experience. Pharmacy purchasing experience.

Preferred: Health-system pharmacy inventory control and supply chain experience.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Continually (75% or more): Standing and walking, lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 1-10 pounds, grasping/squeezing.

Frequently (50%): Sitting, bending, stooping/kneeling/crouching, climbing stairs, lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 11-25 pounds.

Occasionally (25%): Climbing ladder/step-stool, reaching overhead, lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 25-50 pounds, operation of a motor vehicle, using clear and audible speaking voice and ability to hear normal speech level.

Rarely (10%): Keyboard operation.

Never (0%):  Ability to hear whispered speech level.
