Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Graduate Student Admissions
Work with the Graduate Admissions Director on the department’s recommendations to the Dean of Graduate Education, Office of Graduate Studies for admission of students to the doctoral program considering the allotted program budget.
Monitor the applications for the Doctoral Program using Slate and create and share reports for the Admissions Director.
Coordinate Spring Visit to campus for prospective doctoral program students working closely with Director of Graduate Studies and Doctoral Program Admissions Director.
Work with the Office of Graduate Studies and Office of International Students and Scholars teams from admission to enrollment of new students.
Doctoral Program Student Records
Manage, keep and maintain all graduate student records from application and admission through matriculation to graduation in various computer databases including, but not limited to, the Graduate Portal and Workday Student.
Work directly with the Director of Graduate Studies and the Office of Graduate Studies to make sure all requirements are met for graduation.
Ensure FERPA guidelines are adhered to and protect the integrity and confidentiality of student’s official University record.
Manage doctoral program budgets.
Doctoral Student Placement
Coordinate the job market process working with the Placement Director and students entering the job market.
Collect student recommendation letters from faculty advisors and submit the letters in databases such as EconJobMarket, AEA, or Academicjobsonline, or sending via email and regular mail.
Keep and maintain records of placement details.
Events Coordination
Organize the logistics of conferences hosted by the Economics Department, such as hotel reservations, rooms for sessions of the conference, meals, etc. for the Centers and Department.
General Administrative Support
Website content maintenance for updating various parts of the Economics website.
Manage student and alumni email lists and communications including social media.
Organize and proctor required preliminary examinations for first year doctoral students.
Organize mandatory Math Camp (Economics 508 A and B) for incoming students.
Assist the Office Manager in administrative departmental duties.
Other duties as assigned.
Graduate Student Support
Serves as a representative and confidant for graduate students.
When student performance or personal issues arise, identifies when to notify the Program Director, Student Health, or the Office of Graduate Studies and outlines steps for resolution (such as a counselor, tutor, or additional courses).
The ability to travel to on- and off-campus locations as needed is required.
Working Conditions
This position may be required to move/lift <15 pounds (e.g. binders, chairs, a/v equipment) as needed.
