The Broward County Convention Center is undergoing an exciting time of change and growth with new shows booking and a +$1bn expansion nearing completion in 2025 – this includes a new HQ Hotel, currently the largest ballroom in SE USA, multiple meetings rooms, exhibition hall and a brand-new kitchen leading to a total 1.2 m sqft (under roof) of LEED Gold-certified space across the campus. 

 

The Savor F&B team has a need for a dynamic and experienced Banquet Manager, to grow with the facility, with responsibilities for banquet operations and supervises activities relating to food & beverage service for facility events. 

 

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but not limited to: 

  • Assigns functions to supervisory and service staff. 

  • Trains assistants, captains, and service staff on a weekly basis. 

  • Recommends and maintains service standards and procedures. 

  • Monitors the physical condition of ballroom and function areas and reports to Engineering and housekeeping any area that needs attention. 

  • Works with catering and housemen to event coordinators, security, and engineering on function room set-ups. 

  • Oversees uniform control on banquet items. 

  • Oversees banquet par stock on consumables. Monitors requisitions. 

  • Assists in controlling food and beverage costs. Monitors waste. 

  • Review captain's reports and sees they are distributed to proper people. 

  • Periodically reviews guest checks for accuracy, which are done by captains, waiters, or other personnel. 

  • Meet with all planners (daily) to review comments and concerns from their functions. 

  • Hold Banquet meetings to inform staff of policy changes and feedback received from service personnel. 

  • Coordinate with kitchen and stewarding on the timing and production of functions. 

  • Oversees in conjunction with the appropriate department, the preparation, presentation and service of banquet food and beverage products to always ensure the highest quality (). 

  • Tend to any special projects assigned that pertain to the over-all food and beverage operation. 

  • Assures that a daily inspection report is done on all facilities so that they are continuously maintained by the proper areas. 

  • Oversees the service by the individual employee, to include porters, waiters, and captains in order to maintain the standards of the center. 

  •  Directs the removal of all items and cleaning of storerooms monthly. 

  •  Takes or assigns the responsibility of counting the quantity of items received from the kitchen. 

  • Takes or assigns the responsibility of counting the guests upon arrival and updating to give kitchen correct number. 

  • Directs set up of special functions involving the center. 

  • Manages last minute changes and inspects setup and staff for final conditions, will hold pre-function meetings to discuss meal, service and table assignments, etc. 

  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities     

  • Oversees supervision of hourly staff. 

  • Helps to develop and implement appropriate SOPs and training programs. 

  • Fulfills supervisory responsibilities in accordance with ASM GLOBAL's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding; disciplining employees in conjunction with Human Resources; addressing complaints and resolving problems. 

 

Work Contacts 

  • Daily contact with the Food & Beverage Director, Operations/Sales/Culinary and Stewarding teams within F&B as well as Event Services and Utilities (and others as needed) for daily operations. 

 

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience           

  • High school graduate or equivalent. 

  • Three plus years related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred. 

  • Minimum three years of management experience in a food and beverage facility servicing concessions, catering, and special events, or a similar venue.  

Skills and Abilities 

  • Strong orientation to customer service and ability to collaborate with other staff members in the facility. 

  • Excellent organizational, planning, communication, and interpersonal skills. 

  • Ability to undertake and complete multiple tasks. 

  • Strong written, verbal, and people skills. 

  • Communicates efficiently and effectively. (Bilingual – English/Spanish – a plus) 

  • Ability to function in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. 

  • Fosters a cooperative and harmonious working climate conducive to maximum employee morale and productivity. 

  • Communicates efficiently and effectively, and effectively solves problems. 

  • Ability to manage several direct reports. 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office. 

Working Conditions 

  • Works throughout the building. Subject to wet floors, temperature extremes and excessive noise; must be able to lift to 50 pounds in weight. 

  •  Substantial walking and manual dexterity to operate equipment is required.
