Responsibilities:
Manage reliable staff of lab assistants, maintain computer lab and ARC resources, and conduct evaluations/observations of ARC student workers. Serve as a daily point of contact for professional tutors, update Regional Academic Center ARC schedules, and develop strong working relationship with professional tutors as well as student workers. Track student utilization of ARC services and produce administrative projections and reports for all ARC services. Administer technical, payroll, and other business affairs of the ARC. Satisfactory performance, independently and under direct supervision, enhances the ARC’s ability to offer a full complement of academic support to all University students.
Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree and one year of administrative office experience, which must include bookkeeping and customer service, are required. In lieu of a degree, an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Candidates with prior experience in an academic environment working with students and/or who have prior experience working in a lead/supervisory role are highly desirable.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Must be able to competently administer database applications and produce statistical charts and reports in Microsoft Excel
Direct experience providing student support or providing administrative support – preferably in the area of student support in higher education
Competency in using and training students and co-workers on software tools including Microsoft Office suite – work directly with students and support the operation of the Computer Lab as well as staff working in the ARC
Ability to interact positively and communicate with a diverse population of students, staff, faculty, and higher education officials – provide significant level of direct support to students, student workers, and professional tutors
Ability to implement new database attendance tracking software – support the ARC’s tracking of student services;
Strong verbal and writing skills – positively represent ARC services and staff by modeling adherence to high academic standards in all activities and products, especially in promotional materials and presentations to the Mercer Community
Strong organization or business skills and attention to detail – necessary for budget management
Success Factors:
High degree of technical knowledge and ability to learn new software systems;
Experience in academic support venues; intellectual quickness (i.e. ability to size up situations, intuit solutions, etc.);
Ability to be creative and take initiative while working within department guidelines;
Ability to act as a team player;
Skill to speak and compose clear and correct office communication;
Ability to perform with equanimity in stressful situations;
Sensitivity to student security concerns and diligence in conforming to, upholding, and promoting related policies;
Broad background exposure to a variety of work conditions.
Desirable Qualifications:
Experience designing surveys and presenting statistical findings;
Database and website implementation experience;
Familiarity with Google Docs;
Undergraduate or graduate major, minor, or certification in Information Technology, Business, Mathematics, Physical Science, Social Science, or Education.
