Job Summary
Phlebotomists are responsible for efficiently and accurately performing blood draws and assisting with other minor laboratory test on patients.

Reports to: Supervisor, Medical Laboratory

Job Specific Responsibilities
Daily assignments may include but are not limited to:

• Prepare patient rooms for blood draws and/or lab procedures; gathering medical testing materials
• Assist in performing minor lab test that include but not limited to pregnancy, MONO, and certain other rapid testing, when needed
• Use standard protocol to properly identify patient information before labeling samples
• Adequately updating patient information in database
• Address STAT and timed laboratory requests timely and in a courteous manner
• Participate in teaching/ training new phlebotomist
• All other assigned duties related to the medical lab

Education and Experience
• High School Diploma or GED
• Completion of a phlebotomy or medical assisting program

• N/A

Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
This position has much interaction with nursing staff and other hospital departments

Physical Capabilities
Phlebotomist I can expect to stand for long periods of time and walk frequently. This position also requires frequent stooping, sitting, reaching, bending and kneeling. The incumbent may also be required to carry items up to 50 pounds. Near visual acuity is required. Hours may be irregular to accommodate department staffing requirements

Environmental/Working Conditions
This position is subject to inside environmental changes that may include constant change in temperatures and minimal exposure to cleaning, staining, and testing chemicals.
