Head of Technical Program Management

Redwood Materials is currently searching for a Head of Technical Program Management to join our Engineering teams to develop the next generation of materials. This is a leadership role, where a successful candidate will define and build the future of program management for the company. 

The Technical Program Management organization is responsible for the successful planning, execution, and delivery of complex, multi-disciplinary programs across the company. This includes being immersed in the design engineering process and shepherding projects from concept through to prototype validation, commercial scale production plant design, infrastructure design and commissioning, and then production ramp. Technical Program Managers use their engineering backgrounds to understand the product requirements, technical risks and the validation strategy to accelerate the development process. They manage the scope, schedule and budget of capital projects from cradle to grave, present project status at the executive level, and coordinate cross functionally to achieve program objectives. Daily, they interface with cross-functional teams such as design, manufacturing, compliance, supply chain and operations to define and drive development of new product programs, while also managing changes in existing programs.   

As the Head of Technical Program Management, you will be expected to lead a growing team of Technical Program Managers and step in to do individual contributor work as needed.  

Responsibilities will include: 

  • Lead, mentor and grow a team of Technical Program Managers that own engineering roadmaps and ensure programs are delivered on time, within budget and meet business objectives. 
  • Manage and maintain the company’s program roadmap. Deeply understand company programs, especially as they relate to risks, milestones, and deliverables. 
  • Own and drive engineering team-wide processes, standards, and tools to effectively manage a portfolio of programs. 
  • Proactively build and maintain strong, trusted working relationships with company leaders across engineering, operations and corporate functions to drive alignment, optimize program operations, define program scope, and influence solutions, budget, resourcing, and schedule. Effectively hold accountable teams in a matrixed organization to execute priorities.  
  • Support collection and presentation of data and provide input to making technical strategic company decisions. 
  • Establish effective communication channels for program status, risks, and issues to stakeholders, including senior management, to ensure that all stakeholders are informed and aligned throughout the program lifecycle.  

Desired Qualifications 

  • BS/MS in Engineering and 10 years of combined engineering and program management experience in a fast paced, highly fluid environment. 
  • Demonstrated, applied experience delivering complex programs and commercial scale industrial projects.  
  • At least 10 years of experience managing large CAPEX projects in an industrial, commercial, or manufacturing environment.  
  • Experience in managing individuals and teams  
  • Experience working with vertical and lateral stakeholders of many disciplines to keep everyone aligned. 
  • Willingness to get into the details and do individual contributor work as needed 
  • Self-organized, outstanding written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail. 
  • Proficiency in Jira, MS Office Suite and MS Project.. 
  • Familiarity in several Agile principles - Scrum, Kanban etc.

The position is full-time. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
