Job Description

K.S.A.'s:

1.    Minimum 5 years in hospital billing, collection and denials avoidance experience 
2.    High school graduate required; BS or BA preferred. 
3.    Experience with insurance eligibility and benefit verification, managed care and government payers. 
4.    Strong communication/listening skills.  
5.    Ability to make quick, accurate decisions on a daily basis. 
6.    Ability to handle stressful situations.
7.    Proficient computer skills and aptitude.  
8.    Strong interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with pediatric patients, families, physicians, nursing and other allied health and medical center personnel.  
9.    Problem solving ability and able to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
10.    Ability to be a team player, able to work effectively with direct and indirect reporting relationships.  
 

Job Duties:

1.    Serves as a resource person for department.
2.    Demonstrates the Lurie service principles in all activities and acts as a role model for financial clearance team to help promote engagement and department cohesion. 
3.    Daily triage of work load, as needed, to available team members. Be in production working accounts and projects as staffing needs demand. 
4.    Management of assigned Epic WQs for follow up on outstanding accounts or denials. 
5.    Handles escalation situations and processes those situations requiring expert knowledge.
6.    Monitors and coaches staff to ensure competency and quality standards are met. 
7.    Coordinates the training and orientation of new staff with the department manager. 
8.    Provides input and feedback on department workflows and identifies opportunities for process improvement. 
9.    Participates in interviews and helps to select prospective employees. 
10.    Collaborates with IM and Project Coordinators to ensure computer systems support billing, collection and denial workflows.
11.    Leads and/or participates in project teams as appropriate related to implementation of new revenue cycle initiatives.
12.    Acts as Liaison between Hospital Billing and other Departments
13.    Provides input on strategy, planning, and implementation of new operations and systems.
14.    Other job functions as assigned.
