Moderna is expanding its international business services hub in Warsaw to support the growth of our global research and development pipeline. As part of this expansion, we are looking for a Principal Analyst, Financial Planning and Analysis – Research & Development to join the Moderna Enterprise Solutions Hub (MESH). This is a hands-on role where you will deliver data-driven financial insights, streamline processes, and enhance transparency across our R&D finance operations. You will report directly to the Senior Director, FP&A and operate as a key liaison between finance and R&D business stakeholders, enabling scalable and efficient financial management as Moderna accelerates scientific innovation globally. This role offers exposure to senior leadership and the opportunity to work closely with HR, budget owners, and technical partners. It is a Warsaw-based position with 70% on-site presence and is an individual contributor role.

Here’s What You’ll Do:

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Supporting monthly close activities by maintaining and enhancing forecasting tools, models, and templates across multiple cost centers

  • Delivering monthly reporting and detailed variance analysis with insightful financial commentary

  • Leading workforce planning initiatives in collaboration with HR, including monthly headcount reconciliations, open role tracking, and FTE alignment

  • Managing quarterly forecasting and annual budget cycles by consolidating data and facilitating input from business leaders

Your responsibilities will also include:

  • Designing and maintaining scalable data structures, templates, and forecasting infrastructure to support R&D operations

  • Identifying opportunities for automation and process optimization across finance workflows

  • Acting as a primary financial liaison for R&D stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and decision-making support

  • Driving consistency, accuracy, and efficiency across all FP&A activities within the R&D finance function

    You’ll operate as a trusted finance partner to R&D leadership—owning financial outcomes, influencing decisions, and proactively identifying areas for improvement to ensure Moderna’s pipeline is strategically resourced.

Here’s What You’ll Need (Basic Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in financial planning and analysis

  • Expertise in data analytics and financial modeling, with proficiency in tools such as Excel, Power BI, Tableau, or similar

  • Strong understanding of US GAAP financial principles

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex financial information in a clear and concise manner to non-finance stakeholders

  • Fluent in English, both verbal and written

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications):

  • An MBA or professional certification (e.g., CFA, CPA) preferred but not required

  • Previous experience in biotech/pharma is desirable, yet not required

  • Experience with ERP systems and financial planning software

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple projects with tight deadlines

  • Willingness to travel to Cambridge, US headquarters as required
