Accountable for terminal and fleet loading operations, focusing on safe, efficient, cost effective and compliant operations resulting in an industry leading position in terminal network efficiency, fleet utilisation and efficiency, aligned with Astron Energy’s customer-facing strategy.
Full accountability for the safe, reliable and efficient storage and loading of products including delivering financial performance metrics, managing the terminals inventory performance; joint accountability for achievement of target performance for OEAT (NOI). Accountable for Service Delivery Reliability to Customers. The role involves managing operational workflows, ensuring regulatory and safety compliance, supervising staff, maintaining equipment and infrastructure, and ensuring customer satisfaction through timely and effective service delivery.
The Terminal Manager role serves as a critical leadership platform within the organisation and is designed to develop and prepare high-potential leaders for progression into the broader and more complex role of Area Manager.

  • Manage day-to-day operational activities including product receipts, transfers, loading rack operations, tank field operations, quality control, routine maintenance, SHEQ, stock control and reconciliation consistent with safe, reliable and efficient operations to the company standards
  • Oversight responsibility for the operated facility as per business requirements (supplied from the Refinery, Joint Venture (JV) and 3rd party operated facilities)
  • Effective management of Inventory control (products including additive), ensure daily execution and balancing of stock in compliance with procedures
  • Oversee maintenance and inspection of tanks, pumps, pipelines, and loading systems as per preventative maintenance program
  • Management of the terminal Opex budget and drive for cost efficiency.
  • Responsible for execution of routine maintenance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with SHEQ standards & processes, control of works by all personnel under his or her supervision and maintain all terminal documentation.
  • Drive the terminal power team meeting with engineering and SHEQ
  • Contribute to capital requirements, tank, piping, rotating equipment.
  • Provide operational and market insights to support area-wide planning and strategy.
  • Participate in cross-terminal projects and regional/national initiatives to build readiness for expanded leadership responsibilities.
  • Steward the Loss Prevention System (LPS) in line with the protocol.
  • Coordinates training and development of the personnel under his or her supervision in line with the Training Curriculum. .
  • Maintain all terminal documentation and ensure compliance with relevant standards.
  • Perform frequent LPS walkabouts (facility and work-related).
  • Perform personnel evaluations for direct reports.
  • Manage staff leave to ensure adequate shift coverage at all times.

Professional Qualification and Certifications:

  • Grade 12 and Relevant Tertiary NQF Level 6 Qualification (typically in BCom, Business Management, Operations or Logistics Management, Mechanical or Technical Degree).
  • Completion of leadership programs is advantageous.

Work Experience:

  • At least 5 or more years’ experience in petroleum Operations, Logistics, Supply Chain and Distribution Management
  • Experience in terminal operations management, financial knowledge in managing OPEX and ability to manage external relationships
  • People management experience
  • Contract Management and Negotiations

Knowledge and skills:

  • Strong leadership skills in operational excellence, people development, and being customer focused
  • Ability to drive for results and lead change
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office, SAP system & Terminal Automation (e.g. FuelFACS) or similar system knowledge
  • Understanding of how terminal operations impact overall business performance.
  • Proficient in financial management and driving financial performance
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Good communicator and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to think beyond daily operations and to contribute to broader area-level planning and decision-making.
  • Good understanding of maintenance of equipment
  • Good understanding of Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) processes
