Job Details:

Mercer University’s College of Pharmacy is searching for a Director of Finance and Administration on the Atlanta, Georgia campus.


 

Responsibilities:

The Director of Finance and Administration is a key member of the Dean's administrative staff and Executive Committee and is responsible for overseeing all matters relating to the College's budget and financial reporting to national and state agencies. The Director of Finance takes a strategic role in managing the financial assets of the College. The Director of Finance also has responsibility for the maintenance of the assigned building space and assets. Primary responsibilities are for the College of Pharmacy, with supplemental financial duties for the Georgia Baptist College of Nursing.

Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or a closely related field and five years of administrative management and financial analysis experience to include general accounting knowledge, budgeting, purchasing, and computer experience OR a Master’s degree and three years of the same related experience are required.  Candidates with a master’s degree and/or prior experience in higher education or not-for-profit are highly desirable.

Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the university’s carrier.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Computer literacy is required to use the University’s FRS and Budget System and also to complete Excel spreadsheet analysis.

  • Knowledge of purchasing is necessary because of the importance of this function to the operation of the College’s instructional and research programs.

  • Familiarity with accounting and budgeting concepts in order to complete budgeting process and understand and process financial documents.

  • Operating in the academic environment or not-for-profit experience is critical to understanding unique characteristics and situations that do not exist in general business environments.

  • Attention to detail is essential for accurate financial reporting and forecasting of results.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills are essential for transmitting information accurately and effectively.

  • Knowledge of agreements/contracts is important because these are processed by the Director of Finance and Administration from the College to the University and from the University to the public.

  • Ability to work collaboratively across a variety of functions and levels within the University system is critical because the Director of Finance and Administration functions as a liaison.

  • The Director of Finance and Administration must be able to work without constant supervision because of the uniqueness of the role and the limited time available to the Dean to manage day-to-day operations of the Director.
