Role Purpose

In this role you will work closely with the Zurich based Marine team to manage the existing portfolio and to develop new opportunities with the aim of growing the book profitably.  The existing book includes Cargo, Hull, Liability, Energy (Upstream, Downstream, Renewables) and is a mix of both proportional and excess loss business.  You will help define line of business and market strategies, manage client and broker relationships and offer Everest Re’s transaction capabilities to clients and brokers in Europe and the broader International environment.  In addition, you will assist in managing Group accumulations for key loss scenarios.

In addition to working with the Zurich based team, there will also be close liaison with the Marine colleagues in New Jersey, the Global Specialty Lead plus co-ordination across the Everest International network.  You will also work closely with other P&C colleagues in the Zurich office to offer Line of business support where required throughout Europe.

Key Accountabilities

  • Development and execution of market and underwriting strategies based on ERCID’s overall strategic goals.

  • Working closely with the Zurich based marine team in the underwriting of the existing Marine portfolio and origination of new transactions.

  • Analyse Marine business and be actively involved in ensuring our pricing tools are appropriate for the business and updated periodically.

  • Close liaison with Zurich and International colleagues to develop and manage Marine business across Europe and across the International network.

  • Actively involved in overall accumulation control for major Marine/Energy loss scenarios. 

  • Help to manage underwriting quality and establish best practice within Marine/Energy lines of business.

  • Represent the Marine team at client/broker meetings/events.

  • Represent Everest Re at Marine industry and Global Reinsurance events.

  • Coordinate with other Everest Re functions across various offices in Zurich and Dublin.

Professional Experience:

  • A strong background working in a client management/underwriting function of a global P&C reinsurer or reinsurance broker.

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the reinsurance industry.

  • Specific line of business experience in Marine & Energy business, incl. pricing capabilities.

  • Track record in developing and executing market strategies.

  • Deep knowledge of each of the Global Marine & Energy sub lines of business – Hull, Cargo, War, Liability/P&I, Energy (Upstream, Downstream, Renewables).

  • Experience of International Marine market environment.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Ability to independently develop client/broker relationships.

  • Good negotiation skills.

  • Strong analytical/quantitative skills.

  • Good communication skills and team player.

  • Cross cultural skills.

  • Academic degree (e.g. business, quantitative, law).

  • Language skills – a plus.

  • Willingness to travel.
