Supervisor Respiratory Therapy I - Freestanding Emergency Departments

This position is responsible for leading the RTs in the freestanding emergency departments (Brunswick Family Health Center, Lakewood Family Health Center, Twinsburg Family Health Center). These RTs are trained to perform expanded duties in addition to those of traditional RT responsibilities including IV insertion, managing point of care labs, staffing the AMET team, etc.

This expanded RT role demonstrates the flexibility and value of respiratory therapy and is not found in other health systems. A caregiver in this position works days, 8:00am—5pm 


A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Oversee and direct all activities regarding respiratory therapy personnel. 

  • Assist with the development of employee schedules, maintain employee records, and ensure accurate timekeeping. 

  • Assist with employee performance evaluations and gives appropriate feedback. 

  • Assist staff with identifying and utilizing learning resources available within the hospital/community. 

  • Assist with the development of an ongoing program of orientation, training and education for new employees and students. 

  • Participate in the development and maintenance of a performance improvement program. 

  • Take measures to continuously improve the quality of services delivered. 

  • Participate in the writing, reviewing, and updating of the Respiratory Therapy policies and procedures. 

  • Assist with the development of the departmental budget, ensuring the availability of equipment and supplies. 

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies and state law requirements. 

  • Participate in long-term strategic planning and marketing of department services. 

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Associate's degree from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program. 

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) and licensed by the Ohio Board for Respiratory Care (RCP). 

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) 

  • Minimum of three years of experience in critical care along with leadership, education and/or research experience (Ex: Clinical Specialist, Supervisor, etc.)


Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Bachelor's degree. 

  • Strong familiarity with the expanded scope, multiskilled RT role that's used in the ED.

  • Demonstrated ability to use decisive judgement while working with minimal supervision.

  • ACLS, PALS, NRP credentialing

Physical Requirements:

  • Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.

  • Normal hearing and vision or corrected to normal range.

  • May require sitting, standing and walking for extensive periods of time.

  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
