Job Title: Head of Service, Veterinary Dentistry

Location: AMVS

Job Type: Full-Time or Part-time

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Veterinary Dentist to join our team.

Job Description:

Responsibilities:

  • Perform advanced dental procedures, including extractions, root canals, and periodontal surgeries.
  • Diagnose and treat dental diseases and conditions in animals.
  • Conduct thorough dental examinations and cleanings.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans for dental issues.
  • Educate pet owners on proper dental care and preventive measures.
  • Collaborate with other veterinary dentists and specialists within the Linnaeus Group and associates to provide comprehensive care.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed medical records.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in veterinary dentistry.

Qualifications:

  • Veterinary degree
  • MRCVS or FRCVS
  • Completion of a residency and/or Board certification in Veterinary Dentistry (desirable)
  • Evidence of experience in veterinary dentistry.
  • Strong diagnostic and surgical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Compassionate and patient-focused approach.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Education & Qualifications 

 

MRVCS 

 

Completion of a residency programme (desirable)

The Head of Service is required to lead, manage and develop the departments to ensure they achieve the highest possible standards of excellence in all their activities.  

Managerial responsibilities 

  • Direct line management for Veterinary Dentists

  • Managing associate and team performance through the provision of regular reviews i.e. team meetings/monthly 121s/mid and end of year review. 

  • Supporting and empowering associates and professional development of all direct reports. 

  • Monitoring holidays/CPD requests ensuring that the services are always appropriately staffed 

  • Managing associate and team absence effectively and in line with the Absence management policy. 

  • Delegation of appropriate tasks to associates (including lead clinicians in each service) and monitoring performance. 

  • Demonstrate a growth mindset by advocating organisational change and leading by example. 

  • Proactively identify service trends/insights and work with the SLT to improve ways of working  

 

Service management 

  • Monitoring and allocation of appointments, streamlining of cases and case load to improve efficiency 

  • Supervision and mentoring of interns and residents.  

  • Promoting best practice. 

  • Ensuring good communication between associates to develop a consistency in case management and a high standard of care and clinical practice 

  • Promoting a collegiate atmosphere amongst associates to encourage a constructive team approach for challenging cases and a culture of psychological safety. 

  • Ensuring the service rota is up to date, planned fairly and is completed in advance, taking into consideration the needs of the business.  

  • Managing complaints directed to the services. Liaising with client care and hospital manager and VDS about complaints. 

  • Ensuring that service complications and patient safety concerns are reported by associates and are appropriately reviewed using HALO. 

  • Ensuring excellent communication between team members and other departments to improve consistency in case management.

  • Working with the nursing team to manage equipment, stock levels and training for new equipment 

 

 

Service development and management 

  • Continue to develop the range of services offered by the service.

  • Monitoring of appropriate CPD and development objectives and opportunities for the team. 

  • Enabling improvement of services offered including applying for AMVS capital expenditure when necessary (either updates or replacement, or new equipment) via the Hospital Director/Clinical Director. 

  • Collate publication data for the website and keeping information on the website up to date (via the Marketing Manager) 

  • Assisting our Business Relationship Manager to develop and maintain relationships with our referring vets. 

  • Proactively engage with the wider Linnaeus Group and services alike to improve ways of working. 

 

General administration 

  • Attending weekly and period end Head of Service meetings 

  • Preparation of service slide for period end HoS meeting 

  • Occasional work with other departments on recruitment or management issues  

  • To carry out any other reasonable requests by employer.
