Cleveland Clinic provides evidence-based clinical care to some of the most critically ill patients in the United States. Caring for adult, pediatric and/or neonatal patient populations, Respiratory Therapy caregivers evaluate, treat and care for patients with a wide range of lung diseases and respiratory disorders, such as asthma, bronchitis, cystic fibrosis, emphysema, COPD and lung cancer.
A caregiver in this position works varying shifts from 7:00am – 7:00pm or 3:00pm – 11:00pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Perform respiratory therapy assessment with the guidance of a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
Provide basic respiratory therapy modalities to both adult and pediatric patients.
Monitor, record and communicate patient condition as appropriate.
Attend in-service education lectures, programs, seminars and other educational opportunities.
Complete six months of on-the-job training to become familiar with equipment, develop the ability to perform independently and learn additional responsibilities specific to the institution.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Active enrollment in an accredited Respiratory Therapy program or on-the-job trainee prior to 1986.
Current temporary limited permit to practice respiratory care (RCLP-L1) in the State of Ohio.
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Prior experience in critical care and/or neonatal/pediatrics.
Prior experience performing invasive procedures.
