About the Role

Cockroach Labs is looking for a Finance whiz to support our Product & Engineering teams.This role will enable our leadership in their decision making related to product roadmap investments and spend optimization. Finance at Cockroach Labs is responsible for mapping the company's strategic plan, monitoring performance, and partnering with the business to achieve and exceed those plans. This is an opportunity to join Cockroach Labs at a critical stage of growth, as we build on our business momentum and smartly invest growth funding from our investors. You will need the ability to communicate at all levels and have the ability to distill complex issues and processes to simple models and frameworks to help your executive clients better manage their businesses. You will be a champion of driving technology and scale initiatives to remove bottlenecks from our processes.

You Will:

  • Partner with the Product & Engineering teams & leadership; Business partner to CPO/CTO and EVP of Engineering.
  • Work with the Cloud Infrastructure team to plan, forecast the various cloud providers usage and identify opportunities for optimization
  • Lead margin analysis, supporting strategic initiatives to meet target metrics
  • Build pro forma P&L for the various service delivery methods
  • Support strategic planning for our products and new product initiatives via business cases and long range revenue models
  • Own the product P&L to guide capital allocation and investment
  • Own finance processes such as headcount, opex planning, budget vs actuals, vendor approvals, and operational planning in our financial planning tool, Adaptive
  • Develop and maintain key business performance metrics and communicate insightful analysis to stakeholders

  • 5+ year experience in corporate finance / FP&A at a technology / SaaS company.
  • Experience with FinOps/Cloud Infrastructure spend tracking and analysis;
  • Proven experience building strong relationships with business partners across functions and countries
  • Extensive knowledge of and ability to build and adapt financial models, including connected three-statement financial models
  • knowledge and familiarity of financial reporting / accounting concepts; particularly under ASC 606 guidelines
  • Familiarity with NetSuite and Adaptive Insights, a plus
  • Experience managing workloads in a fast paced, dynamic environment
  • A thoughtful collaborator, and great listener, keenly focused on understanding business challenges, building strong relationships and driving even stronger outcomes.
  • A highly analytical problem-solver, with a propensity for action taking.
  • Able to “zoom in and out” of details when needed.
  • An excellent communicator capable of translating complex, nuanced, or detailed analysis into clear, actionable summaries or recommendations.

The Expectations

In your first 30 days, you will develop a strong understanding of our current processes, systems and organizational structure. You will meet with stakeholders across the organization to better understand the current ecosystem. You will develop relationships with key leaders at Cockroach Labs and understanding of their plans. You will review and provide feedback on the current processes and current plans for this year. You will start to identify areas for improvement in the team operations.

In your first 60 days, you will have a good understanding of how Cockroach Labs operates You will start implementing new processes to address more immediate needs of the R&D organization.

After 3 months, you'll be fully integrated into the team and have created a roadmap of projects to make the R&D financial process, best in class. You will start implementing the proposed changes.You will have built key relationships so that you are the go-to subject matter expert in your field.

The annual anticipated base salary range for U.S. candidates for this role is USD $138,000 to $182,400, plus commission if a sales role. We set standard ranges for all U.S.-based roles based on function, level, and geographic location, benchmarked against similar stage growth companies. In order to be compliant with local legislation, as well as to provide greater transparency to candidates, we share salary ranges on all job postings regardless of desired hiring location.  Actual salaries may vary and fall outside of this range depending on factors such as a candidate’s qualifications, geographic location, skills, experience, and competencies. In addition, we are often open to a wide variety of profiles, and recognize that the person we hire may be less experienced (or more senior) than this job description as posted. Salary is one component of the Cockroach Labs’ total rewards package, which includes stock options, health insurance, life and disability insurance, funds towards professional development resources, flexible PTO, paid holidays, and parental leave, to name a few! Salaries for candidates outside the U.S. will vary based on local compensation structures.
