About this unit

The Float Pool offers an opportunity for RNs to gain experience, broaden their skill set, and provide coverage for nursing departments. While the float pool supports other units in the hospital, they function as a collaborative team. Float pool team members must have 2 years of experience in one department to be eligible for the float pool.

About Lakeland St. Joseph

Corewell Health Lakeland Medical Center is a 196-bed hospital providing critical care medicine, hospitalists, medical and radiation oncology, open heart surgery and comprehensive cardiac services, emergency care from board-certified physicians, neurosurgery, orthopedics, obstetrics, rehabilitation services, behavioral medicine, and radiology. It is also the home of the Frederick S. Upton Education Center, which hosts an array of health education programs for the community.

Scope of work

Assumes 24-hour accountability for managing, supervising, and coordinating the operational and financial effectiveness and efficiency of the nursing services/ unit of the hospital. Develops policies, procedures, and processes in coordination with other leaders to ensure the highest quality services are always provided to all customers. Assures presence of a supportive and healthy work environment that promotes retention and embraces diversity. Key responsibilities include unit based goal setting, program development, fiscal management, resource allocation, standards of care, policy and procedure development and interpretation, human resource development, performance improvement, supports a culture of safety and maintenance of interprofessional collaborative relationships.

Nurse Managers in inpatient and outpatient units are REQUIRED to obtain their Nursing Administration or Professional/Specialty Certification within 12 months of assuming the role, or within 12 months of achieving eligibility to sit for the exam if not eligible upon hire in to the role.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) Required.
  • Master's degree in nursing (MSN), healthcare administration, business administration or related field Preferred.
  • Two years of relevant bedside clinical nursing experience Required.
  • One year of relevant supervisory experience Required.
  • MI Registered Nurse (RN) Required.
  • AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required.
