THE ROLE

WittKieffer is looking for a motivated self-starter to join our accounting team as a Corporate Accountant. The accounting team supports the global business by providing accurate and timely financial reporting with insights for key decision making. Ideal candidates have a strong accounting background and are able to exercise professional judgement, work independently, and perform key analyses. They should possess a focus on process improvements, a keen problem-solving ability, and a willingness to undertake any responsibility in support of the needs of the team and the organization.

The Corporate Accountant position will actively support the Assistant Controller and provide analytical support to the Controller and CFO. The work can be carried out in a remote or hybrid environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understand the Firm’s business processes and goals and ensure that the accounting function consistently supports and enhances them.

  • Understand the day-to-day responsibilities of the accounting department and the roles and responsibilities of the department staff.

  • Key contributor to monthly and year-end closes.

  • Be responsible for day-to-day operations, including preparation/review of journal entries, reconciliations, balance sheet and P&L variance analysis, monthly financial reporting, etc.

  • Participate in multi-faceted projects, partnering with other enterprise services departments to enhance and improve financial performance and data from systems.

  • Collect and analyze data and financial and business metrics used by the company and senior management.

  • Provide timely, accurate, and relevant financial information as requested.

  • Assist in preparation of tax returns, including consolidated or multi-state business returns.

  • Be responsible for ensuring SALT returns and payments are completed and paid timely.

  • Complete census, annual state reports, and other ad-hoc business reporting requests.

  • Assist in preparation of annual corporate insurance renewals.

  • Participate in the budget process.

  • Prepare schedules and analyses for the annual fiscal year review by the outside audit firm.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.

  • A CPA is highly desirable.

  • 4+ years’ experience in an accounting or finance position.

  • Experience in a public accounting firm is desirable.

  • Previous experience with information systems for finance and accounting is required (knowledge of Workday is strongly preferred).

  • Advanced user of Microsoft Office products particularly Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Familiarity with financial planning and forecasting.

Critical Competencies:

  • Strong financial analytical skills including ability to drill down into root cause and understand/articulate underlying business reasons.

  • Strong understanding of basic accounting principles (GAAP) used in financial statement preparation, accrual accounting, and understanding of all financial statements.
