Job Summary:
The Manager Medical Staff Services responsibility include supporting the Director in planning, organizing, delegating and coordinating the operation of the Wellstar Medical Staff Services offices which include staff productivity and primary responsibility for coordinating credentialing of Medical Staff and Allied Health professionals. Ensures that quality services are provided according to established policies and procedures. Establishes professional relationships and connects with all interdependent departments regularly to maintain awareness of successes and opportunities. Builds and supports an environment of trust and accountability with the team.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Leadership
* Demonstrates knowledge of, and applies, appropriate project management techniques including initiation, planning, execution, oversight, and completion;
* Employs successful interpersonal and communication skills to manage, lead, and finalize projects;
* Interviews, trains, evaluates, and counsels staff and ensures that new staff members are oriented appropriately;
* Adheres to department budget and supports fiscal responsibility;
* Demonstrates leadership as evidenced by productivity, accuracy of work and staff morale;
* Identifies and resolves issues as they arise;
* Implements ongoing performance improvement initiatives;
* Oversight of data requests, assisting in preparation of statistical data for internal and external departments and analyzing data as needed;
* Assists in development and implementation of policies, procedures, rules & regulations;
* Interacts appropriately with internal and external departments (quality, recruitment, IT, Administration, Board of Trustees, Wellstar Medical Group, Managed Care, etc.).
Medical Staff
* Oversees maintenance of all credential files and database, including maintaining current required documents (professional license, DEA, liability insurance, board certification, etc.);
* Oversees the credentialing/verification process of all practitioners for Hospitals, Medical Group, Hospice, and Managed Care;
* Oversees and assists in review of applicants credentialing information obtained during application process;
* Assures appropriate interface Risk Management regarding credentialing;
* Manages affiliation verification of medical staff/allied health membership/privileges to other facilities;
* Assists in development and implementation of policies, procedures, rules & regulations;
* Maintains a proficient knowledge of Medical Staff Bylaws, Policies, Rules & Regulations.
Regulatory Compliance
* Applies and implements accreditation and regulatory standards;
* Demonstrates knowledge of regulatory and accreditation requirements;
* Supports medical staff and managed care compliance to internal and external regulations and standards;
* Actively participates in organizations compliance activities as required; and
* Assists Director in working with Legal Counsel and Risk Management regarding legal issues.
Performs other duties as assigned
Complies with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Required Minimum Education:
High school diploma in management, business, or administrative health care-related field
an equivalent competence through extensive training and experience as noted below.
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
- CPMSM - Cert Prof in Med Service Mngmt-Preferred or CPCS - Cert Provider Credential Spec-Preferred
Additional License(s) and Certification(s):
Required Minimum Experience:
Minimum 3 years of experience in Medical Staff/Managed Care operations Required and
Experience in management with an integrated multi-facility system and managed care environment Preferred and
Additionally, experience with state/federal regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, Joint Commission and other surveys Preferred
Required Minimum Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with the ability to work with computer-based system for data entry and extraction.
Knowledge of the advanced principles of credentialing and privileging within a hospital environment.
