Job Summary

ConocoPhillips Canada is seeking a Senior Oilsands Revenue and Royalty Analyst. The Senior Oilsands Revenue and Royalty Analyst is responsible for the accurate accounting, analysis, and reporting of oilsands revenues and Alberta royalty obligations. This role supports month-end close activities, including revenue and royalty accruals, production and pricing analysis, and balance sheet reconciliations, while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal controls. The position reports to the Supervisor, PRA and Royalty, and works closely with Commercial, F&PA, and external stakeholders to support audits, royalty submissions, and financial reporting, and provides analytical insight to support business and regulatory decisions.

Position Overview

Primary areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Prepare and review monthly revenue, royalty, diluent, transportation, and inventory accruals for oilsands operations

  • Perform detailed month‑over‑month and variance analysis on production volumes, pricing, and revenue to support financial close and reporting

  • Calculate, record, and coordinate Alberta Oilsands Royalty obligations, including pre‑ and post‑payout royalty calculations and payments

  • Support accurate production reporting, price realizations, and volumetric data used for DD&A, forecasting, and management reporting

  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate discrepancies in accordance with company policies and internal controls

  • Partner with Commercial, F&PA, and Operations to ensure accurate recording of sales, transportation, and inventory transactions

  • Act as a key contact for internal and external audits, including SOX, EOPS, and regulatory audits related to oilsands royalties and revenue

  • Prepare and review regulatory submissions, royalty filings, and supporting documentation for Alberta Energy and other authorities

  • Analyze the financial impact of royalty regime changes, audit findings, and regulatory interpretations on revenue and payout timing

  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, controls, and close efficiency while maintaining compliance and data integrity

  • Provide guidance or mentorship to other analysts and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within Revenue and Royalty Accounting

 Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or related field; CPA designation strongly preferred

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in oilsands revenue accounting, royalty accounting, or regulatory reporting within the Canadian oil and gas industry

  • Strong working knowledge of the Alberta Oilsands Royalty regime, including pre‑ and post‑payout calculations and allowable cost and handling charge concepts

  • Proven experience supporting month‑end close, including revenue and royalty accruals, production and pricing analysis, and balance sheet reconciliations

  • Demonstrated ability to support internal and external audits, including royalty, SOX, and regulatory audits

  • Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder‑management skills, with the ability to explain complex royalty and revenue matters clearly

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience supporting major oilsands assets (e.g., SAGD operations) with complex royalty and cost structures

  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems such as SAP

  • Direct experience with EOPS reporting and Alberta Energy regulatory submissions
