This position reports to the Director of Indirect Tax and is primarily responsible for overseeing compliance, audit, accounting, and cross-functional duties related to US indirect taxes, including sales and use tax, property tax, and other local jurisdictional taxes. The role also involves supporting go-to-market strategies and new product offerings that may impact indirect taxes. Experience in the high technology industry is preferred.

SHOULD YOU ACCEPT THIS CHALLENGE...

  • Oversee all phases of the sales and use tax function, including compliance, audits, and managing tax controversies.
  • Manage all aspects of the property tax function, ensuring timely compliance and addressing any disputes.
  • Coordinate with external service providers for the filing of sales/use and property taxes across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Oversee the collection and management of resale certificates from customers, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Implement and manage a resale certificate tool to streamline the collection, validation, and maintenance of resale certificates.
  • Provide guidance and support to the Operations and Procurement teams on providing resale certificates to vendors, when applicable.
  • Collaborate with the Monetization team and cross-functional groups to assess and address indirect tax implications for new product offerings and go-to-market strategies.
  • Maintain and manage the integration of tax engine software (Avalara) with the ERP system (NetSuite), including overseeing tax code assignments for products and services.
  • Experience with Vertex or OneSource is a plus as we look to switch our tax engine from Avalara to Vertex or OneSource as part of a move to SAP.
  • Act as a liaison with Operations, Cost Accounting, Accounts Receivable, Billing, and Order Administration teams to resolve indirect tax issues.
  • Conduct monthly account reconciliations for indirect tax accounts.
  • Experience with Puerto Rico sales tax is a plus.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BRING TO THIS ROLE...

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • 8-10+ years of professional experience in sales/use tax, with a strong understanding of compliance, audits, and controversy management.
  • Previous experience in public accounting or a corporate tax department.
  • Familiarity with NetSuite and Avalara is highly desirable. Experience with SAP and migrations from NetSuite to SAP is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with Vertex or OneSource tax engines is highly desirable, given the planned migration to one of these platforms.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to work cross-functionally and influence decision-making processes.

 

We are primarily an in-office environment and therefore, you will be expected to work from the Santa Clara, CA office in compliance with Pure’s policies, unless you are on PTO, or work travel, or other approved leave.

 

The annual base salary range is: $172,000 – $259,000. 

Salary ranges are determined based on role, level and location. For positions open to candidates in multiple geographical locations, the base salary range is reflective of the labor market across the applicable locations. 

This role may be eligible for incentive pay and/or equity.
