Volunteer Description:

Hospice volunteers are needed to provide patient/ family assistance. Volunteers will interact directly with patients and families to offer support and will visit patient homes and run errands in the community. They may also participate in office administrative needs for our hospice program.

Essential job responsibilities:

Potential responsibilities include including companionship, running errands, helping to complete unfinished business, other household tasks, contacting surviving family members to provide bereavement support, contacting social workers or bereavement coordinators if concerns are identified, etc. Office support responsibilities include general office, clerical assistance, participating in public relations activities and fundraising activities. Volunteers are expected to utilize effective communication skills with all patients, families, and staff. Maintain ongoing communication with the Volunteer Coordinator regarding patient/family needs, frequency of patient/family contact and services provided. Volunteers provide respite for primary caregiver and family members.

Hospice volunteers are expected to complete their assignment until the patient death or discharge.

 

Minimum qualifications:

Good verbal and written English language skills, bilingual skills helpful

Good listening skills and ability to follow instructions

Positive interpersonal skills. Responsible and service orientated

Sensitive to patients, family, and guests in varying circumstances

Ability to stay calm in stressful situations

16+ years old

Must be able to pass a background check and drug test as well as complete 15 hours of orientation (virtual and in person)
