Working under the general supervision of the Manager, Product Development, R&D Technician, will play a key role in supporting the Product Development team in the development of new products and the improvement of existing ones. You will be responsible for conducting experiments, collecting data, and assisting in the formulation and testing of food products. This position requires a hands-on approach and a passion for food science and innovation.


 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the development and formulation of new food products and recipes.
  • Conduct laboratory experiments and trials, including ingredient mixing, product testing, and sample preparation.
  • Collect and record data from experiments, including sensory evaluations, shelf-life studies, and analytical tests.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and ensure the cleanliness and organization of the lab.
  • Support the scale-up of new products from bench to pilot plant to full-scale production.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Quality Assurance, Production, and Marketing, to ensure successful product launches.
  • Conduct competitor product analysis and market research to support product development.
  • Maintain accurate records of all experiments, formulations, and test results.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to optimize product quality and process efficiency.

BASIC QUALIFICATION (EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE)

  • Associate’s degree or higher in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a laboratory or R&D environment, preferably in the food industry.
  • Strong understanding of food science principles and laboratory techniques.
  • Proficiency in using laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of food safety and regulatory standards (e.g., FDA, HACCP) is a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand 2-3 hours.

King's Hawaiian operates in a hybrid capacity where we are usually in the office Monday - Wednesday and remote on Thursday and Friday. However, due to the nature of Innovation work, there may be an occasional Thursday and/or Friday needed in the office.

The compensation range for this role is $52,500 - $77,500 annually.
