About you and this role - What you will do in this role

The Dow Chemical Company’s St. Charles Operations has an opening for a Senior Maintenance Technician (Millwright). You will support one of its businesses at the Hahnville, Louisiana site. 

As the senior maintenance technician you will overhaul, repair, and perform advanced troubleshooting on industrial rotating equipment. You will work on reciprocating compressors, various types of blowers, centrifugal pumps, centrifugal compressors, gearboxes, and other rotating mechanical equipment. You will have training and experience similar to a journeyman millwright, with some experience in equipment-rigging typically performed by this position. You will be required to perform minor pipefitting tasks associated with general millwright work.

Responsibilities - Duties, projects, tasks, and activities you would be responsible for in this role

Millwright Responsibilities

  • Diagnoses and corrects equipment problems.
  • Calibrates and aligns equipment.
  • Completes preventative maintenance activities.
  • Checks sizing of components and parts.
  • Specifies, requisitions, and installs parts and equipment.
  • Coordinates maintenance spare parts.
  • Assists in planning, prioritizing, and scheduling maintenance through planner, work coordinator and operations input.
  • Sets up and calibrates, tests, measures, and repairs all types of controls and instruments with pneumatic, electrical, and electronic variables.
  • Repairs, maintains, and installs equipment and machinery which is used in the process.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs malfunctions and documents failure analysis.
  • Collects equipment operation and history data to facilitate reliability improvements.
  • Works within established Maintenance Work Processes and helps resolve issues that surface as a result of planning and scheduling work.
  • Works to repair a variety of processes and rotating equipment used in industrial processing. The mechanical equipment may include ANSI pumps, various types of compressors, blowers, fans, gearboxes, turbines and generators.
  • This job requires hands-on fieldwork to determine the cause of equipment failure, locate spare parts, and install spare parts using repair procedures and machinist techniques for alignment.
  • Utilize functional, and technical knowledge, company standards, and educational background or experience to analyze and solve problems.
  • Effectively working and maintaining relationships with the Natural Work Teams and key stakeholders with diverse perspectives and backgrounds is essential including Engineers, Operations personnel, and co-workers to identify and resolve technical issues.

Senior Technician Responsibilities

  • Facilitate daily morning meeting to discuss jobs for the day and daily strategy to complete all work.
  • Responsible for consolidated daily team communication with WAC’s/MAC’s regarding E-jobs, daily schedule updates, upcoming work assignments.
  • Responsible for ensuring housekeeping is satisfactory in work and office areas, waste management, and overall EHS compliance.
  • Responsible to ensure accurate & timely time confirmation of the team
  • Responsible for backfilling technologist role when needed.
  • Focal point for team discussions and decisions regarding assignment of overtime, TA assignments, call out coverage, etc.
  • Schedule and facilitate annual vacation selection and call out schedules.
  • Lead monthly team meeting to review craft metrics and responsible for driving improvements. (craft hour compliance, training compliance, procedure review compliance, etc.)
  • Participate on TES technical expertise network.

Qualifications - Required education, experience and abilities that are needed for this role (must haves)

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial setting.
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.  No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Skills - An expanded list of qualifications that are "nice to have", but not essential

  • Experience leading a team.
  • NCCER certified Millwright.
