Student Support Specialist

 

Position Overview:

The Student Support Specialist at Road to Hire is crucial in providing comprehensive support to students enrolled in various educational programs. This position requires a dedicated individual passionate about empowering and developing under-served youth and young adults to achieve their educational and career goals. The Student Support Specialist will be responsible for offering one-on-one guidance, organizing events, building relationships with students and community partners, and ensuring the overall success of the College Prep Program (High school focus).

 

Key Responsibilities:

Direct Student Support - 70%

  • Provide personalized one-on-one support and guidance to 80-100 students and families, assisting students in exploring post-secondary options like apprenticeships, universities, or trade schools.
  • Develop individualized college timelines, including creating college lists and setting admissions and financial aid application deadlines.
  • Stay current with admissions and financial aid advising practices to aid students in submitting admissions and financial aid applications.
  • Coordinate in-person and virtual events to promote post-secondary opportunities at colleges, universities, and apprenticeships for students and families.
  • Edit and implement a curriculum focusing on career and college pathways using high school appropriate information. 

Caseload & Data Management - 20%

  • Track and record student progress using qualitative and quantitative data in the database.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of milestones, post-secondary access progress, and student communication within designated timelines.
  • Manage scheduling for assigned caseload, ensuring students meet regularly based on program deadlines.
  • Maintain updated student and guardian contact information in the database.

Program Support - 5%

  • Assist in planning and staffing College Prep Program events and student workshops.
  • Support student recruitment, intake, and transition from the College Prep Program to the College Success Program.
  • Collaborate on additional projects or program needs as directed by the manager.

Organizational Support - 5%

  • Support other R2H teams by attending events, networking with stakeholders, and assisting with event logistics.
  • Represent the Road to Hire brand positively and contribute to increasing brand awareness within the community.

 

Qualifications:

  • Strong alignment with Road to Hire's core beliefs and educational philosophy.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Background or experience in career counseling, teaching, or education, preferably in high school or college settings.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with team members and students.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and managing multiple priorities.
  • Willingness to seek feedback and coaching for continuous improvement.
  • Proficiency in balancing tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrates confidence, professionalism, and the ability to make sound judgments.

 

This full-time role may require occasional weekends or evenings. The Student Support Specialist works in schools daily to play a vital role in students' success in Road to Hire's educational programs by providing guidance, support, and resources to help them achieve their post-secondary plans. 

 

Compensation

  • The salary for this position is $53,000
