What success looks like in this role:
Key Responsibilities
- Architect, deploy, and support AWS-based infrastructure components to meet technical and business requirements.
- Administer and troubleshoot Linux and Windows servers hosted on AWS, including patching, hardening, upgrades, and configuration management.
- Develop and maintain automation and infrastructure-as-code using AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, and AWS CLI to standardize provisioning and operational tasks.
- Implement AWS security best practices across IAM, VPC design, security groups, encryption, key management, and auditing to meet security and compliance needs.
- Monitor platform health and performance using CloudWatch/CloudTrail (and approved third-party tools), and proactively optimize availability, performance, and cost.
- Design and operate backup and disaster recovery solutions to ensure business continuity using AWS Backup, S3, Auto Scaling and recovery procedures.
- Support CI/CD integrations with AWS services using CodePipeline/CodeDeploy and/or tools such as Jenkins and GitLab to enable reliable deployments.
- Respond to incidents and service disruptions, perform troubleshooting and root cause analysis, and drive preventive actions to avoid recurrence.
- Collaborate with DevOps, application, and security teams to deliver infrastructure changes and operational improvements; mentor junior engineers and promote best practices.
- Create and maintain operational documentation, runbooks, and standard procedures for supported environments.
You will be successful in this role if you have:
Skills (Must-have)
- 3+ years of infrastructure/operations experience, with 2+ years supporting AWS environments.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of AWS core services: EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and load balancing concepts.
- Strong Linux and Windows server administration experience in cloud environments (OS troubleshooting, patching, hardening).
- Working knowledge of Infrastructure as Code and automation using CloudFormation and/or Terraform and AWS CLI.
- Strong understanding of AWS networking fundamentals: VPCs, subnets, route tables, security groups, NACLs, VPN/load balancer basics.
- Practical scripting skills in Python and/or Bash and/or PowerShell for operational automation.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for cloud infrastructure issues across OS, networking, access, and performance.
- Good communication skills with the ability to document clearly and explain technical issues to stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science / IT / Engineering (or equivalent practical experience).
- AWS Associate-level certification (Solutions Architect Associate and/or SysOps Administrator Associate).
Good to Have / Desirable Skills
- Exposure to advanced AWS services and patterns: Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, VPC endpoints, multi-account networking.
- Experience with AWS Systems Manager (Patch Manager, Automation, Run Command, Session Manager).
- Knowledge of AWS security services: KMS, GuardDuty, Security Hub, AWS Config, AWS Shield.
- Experience supporting AWS-managed databases: RDS/Aurora/DynamoDB (monitoring, backups, connectivity troubleshooting).
- Experience with CI/CD tooling beyond AWS native tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI) and release/change support.
- Experience with cost optimization practices (right-sizing, scheduling, storage lifecycle policies, reserved capacity awareness).
- Familiarity with ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, Change) and on-call/shift-based support models.
