Position Summary:

 This position plays a crucial role in fostering a culture of safety, analyzing HSE risks and hazards, and driving compliance within all . This position requires strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of health, safety and environmental regulations, and the ability to effectively develop, communicate and implement initiatives designed to meet operational goals to reduce injuries, incidents and near misses.  

This role proactively engages and partners with Leadership and teams within operations, food safety, maintenance at the locations to conform with HSE regulatory compliance while mitigating operational risks and hazards throughout continuous improvement and trend analysis.  This role also monitors and audits all such programs for consistency and compliance and leads safety coordinators 

Essential Functions:

Strategy & Program Development

  • Design & Implementation: Develop tailored HSE (Health, Safety, Environment) and security programs aligned with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.

  • Risk Mitigation: Coach sites on identifying hazards and implementing controls via engineering solutions, administrative procedures, and PPE.

  • Continuous Improvement: Collaborate with North American (NA) teams to drive regional safety strategies and standardized solutions for common problems.

 

Site Support & Operational Execution

  • Hands-on Assistance: Provide direct support to US sites to meet HSE objectives, implement tools, and achieve organizational KPIs.

  • Incident Management: Lead investigations into severe incidents and near-misses; determine root causes and oversee corrective actions.

  • Warehouse Safety: Proactively identify warehouse-specific risks and ensure equipment and processes meet safety standards.

 

Auditing & Compliance

  • Inspections: Conduct routine site audits to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and internal GFS procedures.

  • Audit Preparedness: Lead regional audits and support sites before and after inspections to ensure total conformance.

  • Regulatory Monitoring: Stay current on changes in HSE laws and industry trends to keep company policies up to date.

 

Training & Mentorship

  • Coaching: Mentor local HSE resources and site leadership to foster professional growth and safety proficiency.

  • Education: Design and deliver safety training protocols covering equipment operation, hazard recognition, and emergency response.

  • Effectiveness Tracking: Monitor training impact through behavioral observations, knowledge audits, and incident data.

 

Data Analysis & Communication

  • Performance Metrics: Establish and monitor safety KPIs; analyze incident trends to drive data-informed decision-making.

  • Reporting: Communicate safety performance and compliance status regularly to divisional leadership.

  • Collaboration: Act as a liaison between management and employees to communicate initiatives and address safety concerns.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Expertise: In-depth knowledge of OSHA/EPA regulations and accident investigation techniques.

  • Problem Solving: Advanced deductive and inductive reasoning to identify risks and develop innovative, non-routine solutions.

  • Soft Skills: Exceptional interpersonal, collaboration, and organizational skills.

  • Logistics: Ability to manage routine travel to various US specialty company sites.

Equipment / Tools / Technology:

  • Knowledge of spreadsheet, word processing, presentation, email and internet software applications.  

  • Must have knowledge of applications related to safety tracking and reporting.

  • Operation of a GFS provided vehicle.  

  • May use other safety related diagnostic equipment
