Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced Driver™—to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo One, a fully autonomous ride-hailing service, and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over one million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving tens of millions of miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 13+ U.S. states.

Waymo’s Technical Program Managers are accountable for Waymo’s roadmap execution by providing thoughtful cross-functional planning, clarity, and proactive risk management. In the face of complex technical and operational challenges with no established playbooks to follow, we act with thoughtful urgency, driving conversations, discussions, and outcomes. Our team partners closely with every function of Waymo to structure, own and drive work towards real-world deployments of the Waymo Driver across platforms and geographies.

  • Lead proactive risk management efforts and contingency plans across the program landscape to deliver on the program
  • Set up and sustain mechanisms that promote organizational efficiencies, and improve speed of decision-making and execution
  • Communicate across all levels of the organization to ensure all partners are aware of program decisions, status, and changes

You have:

  • 8+ years of  relevant experience driving outcomes for large projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline, and good understanding of Machine Learning model life cycle or equivalent years of experience.
  • The ability to engage with engineering leads and contribute to technical discussions by understanding the tradeoffs and impacts of various technical decisions to the program scope, risks and timeline
  • Fluent in structuring project plans, identifying technical dependencies, and driving execution across teams, all the while implementing process improvements. Having hands-on experience using Agile project management tools
  • A desire to work across the organization with everyone, where all agree what we accomplish is more important than who gets the credit
  • Hands-on experience identifying technical problems, and driving complete cycle of problem discovery to solution and execution.
  • Represent your project from business, product, or technical perspectives at varying levels.

We prefer:

  • Master’s degree in a technical field, ideally related to AI/ML
