Summary:

If so, you could be our Temporary Foster Program Assistant with the ASPCA Los Angeles Feline Programs.

You’ll be working with a high-performing staff and volunteer team providing care for +/- 1,500 felines per year to further the ASPCA’s ultimate desired outcome that all animals live good lives.

The Temporary Foster Program Assistant provides attentive hands-on care for all cats and kittens during their stay at the ASPCA Way Station in Burbank until they are transferred to adoption partners or other foster homes.

The Temporary Foster Program Assistant’s primary responsibilities include daily feeding, cleaning, litter box maintenance, laundry, enrichment, and daily health and behavior monitoring. They will also be responsible for deep cleaning kennels and shared spaces, restocking supplies, and additional administrative tasks as needed.

The Temporary Foster Program Assistant will also act as a liaison between medical staff, foster volunteers and ASPCA drivers during weekly Wellness Clinics. The Foster Program Assistant will provide resources and information regarding feline appointments to foster volunteers in a timely and accurate manner. Providing superior customer service to all foster volunteers is mandatory.

To succeed in this role, the Temporary Foster Program Assistant will be a team player and possess strong communication and organizational skills.

Work Schedule:

This is a temporary, contingent position from September through mid-December, and the person hired will be employed through a third-party staffing agency. The position’s schedule is Tuesday – Saturday and requires working on-site from 7:30am – 4pm at the Way Station in Burbank from Tuesday – Friday, and on-site from 8:30am – 4:30pm at Wellness Clinics in rotating locations within LA County on Saturday.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide attentive care for all cats and kittens at the Way Station including daily feeding, cleaning, litter box maintenance, and laundry

  • Behavior enrichment and daily health and behavior monitoring following ASPCA protocols  

  • Deep clean animal kennels, exam areas, and shared spaces weekly

  • Receive and send out felines from rideshare and ASPCA drivers

  • Set up felines in Way Station kennels and disinfect supplies from foster volunteers

  • Assist the Foster Team to fulfill foster supply requests through an online ordering process

  • Support weekly Wellness Clinics as a liaison between medical staff, foster volunteers, and ASPCA drivers

  • Use an ASPCA phone and computer to communicate with foster volunteers

  • Greet foster volunteers at appointments and communicate information about foster cats and kittens in care to medical staff

  • Escort cats and kittens to and from examination areas for Wellness Clinic appointments

  • Provide outstanding customer service to all foster volunteers with timely and accurate information

  • Prepare and provide supplies to foster volunteers during Wellness Clinic appointments

Qualifications:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; authentic team player willing to give and receive feedback

  • Able to quickly, calmly, and efficiently adjust to changes in direction and re-prioritize work

  • Energized by a fast-paced environment

  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to communicate via text, email, and phone

  • Demonstrates care and concern for the safety and well-being of self, animals and others, especially during stressful situations

  • Must be able to consistently lift up to 30lbs, kneel, bend, and reach overhead to meet the physical demands of this position

  • Ability to vigorously, quickly and thoroughly clean animal spaces, including pushing, pulling, and using cleaning tools such as broom and mop

  • Some animal handling skills preferred but not required

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this temporary role is $21.25 per hour and may be modified in the future.
