The primary purpose of this position is to support lower premium agencies in order to grow Markel business. The ABD will be responsible for enhancing agency relationships and increasing premium production through educating and forging strong partnerships with assigned agents. This role requires employees to drive on a regular basis. Employees in this position are expected to maintain a valid driver’s license and acceptable DMV Motor Vehicle Record which will be pulled on an annual basis for verification.

Responsibilities

  • Execute on Markel’s business plan for assigned region – may assist in creating annual plan.
  • Provide reporting and support on business plans to achieve desired results.
  • Monitor and analyze agency metrics to ensure business planning targets are met.
  • Work with agents between $40k-49k in total annual premium to grow the book of business.
  • May have limited underwriting authority within a defined scope of products.
  • Research and share competitor information with clients.
  • Create and maintain relationships with relevant industry stakeholders to further advance the Markel brand.  Work with regional underwriting and PLL.
  • Help identify new producers to build profitable premium volume; participate in agency terminations as needed
  • Limited travel expected in assigned region

Qualifications

  • Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Ability to multi-task in fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Ability to follow process and attention to details.
  • Intermediate level of proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Word and Excel.

Pay information:

The base salary offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors. The base salary range for the Associate Business Development Specialist position is $27/hour - $33/hour with a 15% bonus potential.
