Warner Bros. Games Boston is a Warner Bros. Games development studio focused on creating free-to-play games for mobile platforms. The studio is utilizing its extensive expertise in creating persistent online worlds that foster powerful social gaming communities to develop its hit mobile game, Game of Thrones: Conquest.

WB Games Boston is looking for Software Engineer Co-ops to join our game engineering teams! In this position, you will have a hands-on role maintaining and implementing key game systems and features for an upcoming unannounced mobile strategy title.  These co-ops will be located in the Boston, MA area from January to June 2025 (5 months). The selected co-ops will be expected to join us in the office on a regular cadence based on the intern managers in office schedule.

This role is an opportunity to get your foot in the door to the exciting and rewarding Games Industry. This is a genuinely entry-level opportunity at a studio that is committed to inclusive and equitable hiring. Prior professional experience is not required.

What We Do

The Game Engineering teams (in pods of 4-6 engineers) work to improve the player experience, build out new features, investigate tricky technical issues and bugs, and constantly deliver fresh content to players across the world. Your work will reach a vast audience of passionate players.

The Part You’ll Play

  • Develop systems in a microservice backend to support a mobile game client. This may include bug fixing, optimization, writing database queries, and full feature implementation for providing gameplay on a massive online scale.

  • Participate in code reviews to iterate and refine implementations. This is a core part of our process that will help you to learn and grow.

  • Deploy core technologies in an AWS powered stack to run infrastructure that runs the backend services.

  • Own your work when given prioritized goals and objectives.

  • Work closely with other team members and take technical and professional feedback, ask good questions, and develop your skills.

  • Some previous systems developed by interns include:

  • Our notification overlay system, letting players customize what game information they want to receive.

  • Our trinket template system, letting players quickly craft better gear.

  • An internal reminder system to alert developers when they have reviews that need attention.

The Essentials

  • Currently enrolled as a student working towards a Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field.

  • Must be actively enrolled in an accredited college or university degree program for the full duration of the internship (proof of enrollment required)  

  • Must be a rising Junior or Senior (18 years or older)  

  • Must be in academic good standing (3.0 or above cumulative GPA) A transcript will be required to verify your GPA if an offer is extended. 

  • Comfort with basic software development including coding, knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and complexity analysis

  • The ability to work in a collaborative environment and effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical team members

  • Curiosity, an open mind, and a willingness to learn and take feedback

  • Warner Bros. Discovery will only consider candidates who are presently authorized to work for any employer in the United States and who will not require work visa sponsorship from Warner Bros. Discovery now or in the future in order to retain their authorization to work in the United States. Candidates currently on any student or exchange visa, including F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, J-1, M-1, etc., will not be eligible for the internship program. 

The Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Git or other revision control systems

  • Experience creating web services with any tech

  • Experience using cloud services such as AWS or Google Compute Engine

  • Experience using Docker or other containerization technology

  • Familiarity with the Game of Thrones television series and/or series of books

And finally, what to know before applying:

  • The duration of the Spring 2025 co-op program is 5 months from January to May dependent on the student’s availability based on semester schedule

  • Interns will be expected to work 35-40 hours per week in a hybrid capacity for the full duration of the program.   

  • Our internships are paid opportunities. Credit is not required; however, we will provide the necessary documentation for school credit if desired. Relocation is not provided. 

We are interviewing through Fall 2024 on a rolling basis.  A Warner Bros. Discovery Intern team member will contact you if your experiences and interests match an open internship position. Due to the high volume of applications, we are unable to give individual status updates. 

In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation for roles in locations where legally required. Pay Rate: $31 per hour USD for undergrad interns.
