What you’ll do:

In this role you’ll be responsible for leading the successful execution of FHLBank Chicago’s Community Investment strategy, including oversight of current affordable housing and economic development programs, research and development of new products, and management of Community Investment programs staff. This position will support the Bank’s senior leadership to deliver on the Bank’s strategic, Community Investment mission objectives. This individual will work closely with teams throughout the Bank that support the Community Investment team’s programs strategy, including Bank Operations, IT Systems, Sales, Mortgage Partnership Finance Program, Accounting, Reporting, and Communications.

How you’ll make an impact:

  • You will manage a team to successfully execute FHLBank Chicago’s Community Investment strategy.
  • You will oversee FHLBank Chicago’s affordable housing and economic development programs, including research and development of new products.
  • You will play a key role in internal and external strategic initiatives to advance FHLBank Chicago’s housing leadership.

What you can expect:

  • Lead the successful execution of the Community Investment Group’s business strategy, including ongoing oversight of current affordable housing and economic development programs, leadership of research and development activities for new programs, and management of strategic Community Investment projects and initiatives.
  • Represent Community Investment in Bankwide projects supporting Community Investment objectives. Lead and participate in Community Investment-oriented initiatives across Bank business lines. Undertake special projects as needed.
  • Supervise the daily business activities of Community Investment programs staff, including assigning, tracking, and supporting the successful execution of work assignments.
  • Collaborate with other Bank departments that support Community Investment programs (i.e., Bank Operations, IT Systems, Sales, Mortgage Partnership Finance Program, Accounting, Reporting, and Communications) to ensure strategic and operational alignment and achievement of Community Investment program objectives
  • Participate in strategic planning activities.
  • Engage in outreach activities as needed with member financial institutions and community partners to facilitate their use of CI programs, inform product development, and support the Bank’s relationships.
  • Support the Community Investment team’s interactions with Bank’s Executive Team, Community Investment Advisory Council, and Board of Directors, overseeing the preparation of materials and presenting on Community Investment activities and programs as needed.
  • Participate in the development and management of team budgets.
  • Develop and implement a professional development and training plan for the CI team.

What you’ll bring:

  • 10+ years of banking or community development experience with 3+ years of leadership experience
  • Masters or other advanced professional degree with a concentration in Business or Public Administration, Real Estate, Urban Planning, Community Development, or other allied field.
  • MS office – intermediate
  • Excel – intermediate
  • Background and comfort in working with online systems
  • Project management training and/or experience
  • Demonstrated ability to lead program/project teams to achieve desired results
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to successfully collaborate with diverse stakeholders to achieve common objectives; strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience working in the banking and/or community development finance sector, with strong knowledge of affordable housing finance and community lending
  • Budget management experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively and succinctly to a variety of audiences both in writing and orally, including public speaking
  • Able to analyze, apply, and communicate policies, procedures, and regulations effectively
  • Ability to take initiative in a fast-paced work environment and work effectively under pressure, independently and as a member of a team. 
  • Ability to prioritize and concurrently manage multiple responsibilities and demands
  • A deep understanding of the Bank’s brand, mission and regulatory environment
  • Proven ability to develop, analyze, and effectively interpret quantitative and qualitative data from an impact, risk, and return perspective
  • Fluency in MS Office, including Excel and Access; fluency in Tableau and Salesforce a plus
