About the team and role:
 

We are looking to hire a Data Scientist to partner with eBay's Risk teams. As a critical member of the Product Analytics and Insights team, this individual will have the unique opportunity to influence decision making and roadmaps, directly impacting what customers experience on our platform and help making eBay a more trustworthy marketplace for our buyers and sellers. With a vision to find opportunities to drive transformative change in the customer experience and significant business growth, we mine the largest datasets in the world of e-Commerce and use best in class analytics and big data techniques to extract impactful insights. We achieve this by working closely with Product, Engineering and Business teams; and identify new opportunities that can be added to the product roadmaps.

What you will accomplish:

  • Work with large and complex data sets to solve a wide array of challenging problems demonstrating different analytical and statistical approaches.

  • Work with cross-functional partners to Influence product strategy and investment decisions with data driven insights and recommendations, be focused on impact and collaborate with other teams.

  • Use data to understand the product and business ecosystem, quantify new opportunities, identify upcoming challenges, and shape product development to bring value to our customers and our business.

  • Help develop strategy and support leadership in prioritizing what to build and setting goals for execution.

  • Build thought partnership with product leadership to drive data-driven decisions.

What you will bring:

  • BS/BA degree in Statistics, Applied Econometrics, Math, Physics, Computer Science, other related Core Sciences or equivalent.

  • 2+ years relevant professional experience or Master’s degree and 1+ yr.

  • Excellent SQL skills. Experience with other programming/scripting languages (Python, R, Julia etc.) to extract/manipulate data.

  • Intellectual curiosity and ability to balance attention to detail and big picture vision.

  • Willingness to get out of your comfort zone, continuously learn about new business functions, datasets, and tools.
