The Department of Economics and Business at Colorado School of Mines invites applications for a part-time position as an instructor for Business Decisions Optimization (Prescriptive Analytics) (master’s level) during the Spring 2025 semester.

The Business Decisions Optimization course aims to identify the best decisions for organizations, and it is the main factor that differentiates Business Analytics from Data Analytics. Specifically, this course focuses on the art of model building using linear, integer and mixed-integer programming for business applications in several areas such as production, supply chain management, and finance. It also provides insights into specially structured models, and fundamental skills on model enhancement techniques.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide instruction, practice, and guidance for an in-person course (meets twice a week)
  • Employ relevant teaching strategies and foster a supportive learning environment that encourages student success
  • Assess student progress toward mastery of learning outcomes with timely feedback
  • Hold weekly office hours
  • Utilize the class technologies to help with course management, course delivery, and student communication, including the LMS Canvas
  • Develop, assess, and improve course materials, assignments, and delivery as required

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in business analytics or related field
  • Experience teaching college-level business optimization courses

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Broad knowledge of business analytics topics included in the class
  • Oral and written communication

Preferred Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • PhD in business analytics or related field
  • Experience teaching Masters’-level Business Decisions Optimization courses

Annual Rate and Benefits 

$7,000.00 - $10,000.00 per semester depending on qualifications 

Adjunct faculty are not eligible for benefit coverage under the University’s benefit program
