Do you have experience spearheading the implementation of workstreams that transform how biological targets are selected and identify prospective patients to benefit from Oncology medicines? If so, this scientific leadership Executive Director role could be an ideal opportunity to explore.

In R&D, we focus on three priorities: Execution, Technology and Culture to competitively deliver needed, transformational vaccines and medicines to patients around the world who count on us every day. Data and Tech are critical components to our strategy to inform how we pick targets and develop medicines. In Oncology we build multiomic datasets that reflect the diversity of all our patients and provide biological and clinical disease insights and apply complex translational systems and AI/ML modelling to increase our PTRS in the clinic and further stratify patients.

We are seeking an Oncology Data and Technology Strategy Implementation Lead to spearhead the implementation of five innovative workstreams that will transform how we select biological targets and identify prospective patients to benefit from our Oncology medicines. These five workstreams form the basis of our Oncology Data and Technology strategy.

This position requires an on-campus presence a minimum of two to three days a week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement strategic plans for data and technology initiatives within the Oncology portfolio, ensuring integration and alignment with broader organizational goals and that a clear ROI is generated.
  • Program Management: Oversee and cross functional/ matrix lead, in collaboration with the Oncology R&D Leadership team, five Oncology data and technology workstreams, ensuring alignment with the overall Oncology drug discovery and development strategy.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including pre-clinical, clinical, medical, commercial and business development stakeholders, to ensure seamless execution of data and technology projects. This also includes providing regular updates to senior R&D leadership and relevant stakeholders.
  • Training & new skill building: In collaboration with the Oncology Capabilities Lead identify required training and capability enhancements that need to be established within the organization to fully adopt and apply the outcomes from the Oncology data and technology initiatives
  • Innovation and Improvement: Drive continuous improvement and innovation within the Oncology data and technology landscape, leveraging new tools and methodologies to enhance project outcomes.
  • Resource Allocation: Optimize resource allocation in partnership with Oncology leadership to enable successful and timely execution of project timelines, deliverables and budget.
  • Performance Monitoring: Track and report on the progress of data and technology initiatives, using key performance indicators to measure success and identify areas for improvement.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Compliance and Assurance: Ensure all projects comply with relevant regulatory requirements and internal GSK standards.

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Doctorate degree in a scientific field such as Oncology or Biochemistry
  • Significant experience in drug discovery and development supporting the life sciences industry
  • Experience in a management consulting firm
  • Significant experience in strategy development and execution
  • Strong experience in program management, particularly in managing complex, cross-functional projects within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
  • Strong experience with regulatory requirements and quality standards relevant to Oncology drug development.

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics in addition to the basic qualifications, it would be a plus:

  • Strong Oncology drug discovery and development
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex information to diverse audiences.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate cross-functional/ matrix teams.
  •  Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate and resolve complex challenges.
