Dow is seeking a Mechanical Technologist in the Gulf Coast Pipeline Group within its Louisiana team located at Louisiana Operations (LAO).

About you and this role - What you will do in this role

Our job will provide maintenance technical input and oversight for the daily technical support necessary to maintain safe and reliable operation of the Maintenance equipment within our pipeline facilities.  Technologists apply advanced skills and expertise in a range of processes, procedures, and systems, and/or specialized technical expertise to address a broad range of complex work assignments.  The mechanical technologist will also act as a working team lead, providing subject matter guidance and coordinating work of others.

This role will mainly support our rotating equipment assets along our Louisiana pipeline systems, ranging across southern Louisiana to the Texas border.  The role will also be the primary backup for the US Gulf Coast Pipeline Texas Mechanical Technologist with our rotating equipment assets along our Texas pipeline, ranging across southern Texas to the Louisiana boarder.

 

Responsibilities - Duties, projects, tasks, and activities you would be responsible for in this role

  • Provides experience on failures and repair techniques during root cause investigations. 
  • Provides technical expertise to plant personnel on troubleshooting failures, repairs, and evaluating whether equipment is designed to meet its intended or existing service conditions. 
  • During repairs ensure that repair details such as clearances, tolerances, materials of construction, welding procedures, etc are provided and documented. Provide technical support as needed. 
  • Ensures repair techniques, repair procedures, and equipment specific training are documented and made available. 
  • Provide technical support for specification, identification and purchasing of needed parts. 
  • Provides maintainability input to Projects, Six Sigma and other improvement activities. 
  • As appropriate and required, reviews spare parts list for existing equipment and works with Maintenance Repair Operations (MRO) to ensure parts are identified, added and stocked in the MRO system in support of the maintenance strategy. 
  • Participates with Reliability Engineer (RE) in developing the equipment maintenance strategy by providing technical and historical information. Develops maintenance procedures based on Most Effective Technology (MET).  
  • Participates in developing the maintenance budget to support the maintenance strategy. 
  • Serves as a technical resource to the planner on work packages. 
  • During development of turnaround work, provides input on scope of work. 
  • Evaluates Condition-Based Monitoring (CBM) activities and determines appropriate action. 
  • Supports Maintenance Procedure Use Policy:
    • Performs technical reviews of procedures.
    • Serves as a technical resource during procedure creation and review. 
    • Supports development of the “Procedure Exemption List”.
    • Creates/develops/changes/updates job procedures and checklists, and initiates procedure Management of Changes (MOCs). 

Skills (employee is able to)

  • Provides maintainability input to Projects, Six Sigma and other improvement activities. 
  • As appropriate and required reviews spare parts list for existing equipment and insures parts are added in support of the maintenance strategy example: Existing parts numbers and vendor stock number are correct, warehouse code numbers are assigned, etc. 
  • Develops maintenance operating discipline.
  • Participates in developing the maintenance budget to support the maintenance strategy. 
  • Serves as a technical resource to the planner on work packages. 
  • During development of turnaround work provides input on development of work orders particularly on critical equipment.

Qualifications - Required education, experience and abilities that are needed for this role (must haves)

  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED.
  • A minimum of 5 years of mechanical rotating equipment and flange make up experience.
  • Willing and able to travel roughly 25% of the time.
  • Working knowledge of basic process equipment (pumps, blowers, hydraulic and pneumatic systems).
  • Must have a current, valid US driver’s license.
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.  No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process. 

Preferred Skills - An expanded list of qualifications that are "nice to have", but not essential

  • Experience in the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of reciprocating compressors, multi-stage pumps, vertical pumps, and mechanical seals.
  • NCCER Certification, Trade School or Associates.
  • SAP experience.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to use and read a Micrometer.
  • Setting clearance on pumps with open face impeller.
  • Orientation on angular contact ball bearings.
  • Mechanical seal tensions.
  • Department of transportation Operator Qualifications.

  • Our safety equipment has weight restrictions.  To qualify, you must be able to use standard safety equipment which is rated for someone who weighs 300 pounds.
