Here’s Where You Come In
The Director of Financial Operations is the leader of the financial operations processes for our region, including month-end close, financial forecasting, budget management, revenue recognition, commission payments, M&A financial due diligence and integration, systems management, and dashboard development to generate data-driven operational insights for our teams.
This role reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer and leads a team of two analysts, including a Property & Casualty Operations Analyst and an Employee Benefits Operations Analyst who oversee the day-to-day financial operations and analytics work.
The ideal candidate is a rigorous and intellectually curious financial professional who brings technical expertise to this role while also supporting and mentoring the rest of the team through change and challenges. You are the kind of leader that your team comes to with hard questions because they know they'll get thoughtful answers. Above all, you bring sound judgment, principled decision-making, and a genuine service orientation to all the work you do.
Core Responsibilities:
Own the region's monthly financial close, including revenue variance analysis, forecasting, expense management, and team performance metrics, while partnering with leadership to translate the results into actionable insight.
Build and develop the dashboards, reports, and analytics that give regional and operational leaders the insight they need to make timely and well-informed business decisions.
Lead the regional budget development process, including building the data models and forecasts that help us ground strategic decisions in defensible numbers.
Serve as the senior expert on complex financial and operational challenges, such as revenue recognition, premium payables, commissions, bonus structures, and corporate accounting matters, while bringing rigor and sound judgment to issues that require both technical depth and cross-functional collaboration.
Lead the financial due diligence and integration of acquisitions, including review of revenue, expenses, compensation, financial risks, and operating assumptions.
Strengthen the foundation of our financial operations by improving data integrity, refining systems, and elevating the standards of how we capture, organize, and use financial data.
Lead, coach, and develop the operations analyst team, providing effective delegation, peer review, and mentorship to grow the capabilities of the team and support collaborative solving of complex problems.
Build trusted partnerships with regional and corporate leaders, serving as a reliable, principled point of contact on financial operations matters.
Cultural Expectations:
Determination: Unsatisfied until we are the best
Ownership: Responsible to each other, our clients, and our goals
Teamwork: Success is a team sport; when we follow the HUB Way, we win together
Sincerity: We give and receive direct, caring feedback; we speak the truth, even when it’s hard
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Economics, Finance, Accounting, or related field
3–5 years of progressive experience in financial operations, financial analytics, or business intelligence
Strong mathematical, analytical, and data modeling capabilities with a methodical approach to translating complex data into executive-ready insight
Robust financial acumen with working knowledge of P&Ls, financial statements, and operational financial reporting
Advanced Excel and demonstrated experience building reports, dashboards, and financial models in Power BI or comparable tools
Experience with advanced data and automation tools (e.g. SQL, Power Query, Power Pivot, Power Automate, VBA)
Direct people leadership experience, including coaching, delegation, performance feedback, and quality review
Ability to operate independently, manage competing priorities, and improve inherited processes
Experience in insurance, financial services, or professional services preferred
