Job Description:

HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current), that enable to transmit electricity over long distances and via submarine cables which provides billions to access electricity. As a Quality engineer, you will work in the R&D organization on projects critical to Hitachi Energy needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve.

The current technology has enabled the connection of renewable energy such as large offshore wind and remote solar generators to the grid and brings clean energy to large cities. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas to make the power grid greener and smarter as we continue to push the technology forward.

Our team is a part of Hitachi Technology and Solutions Development in Ludvika, Sweden, and is responsible for the development of semiconductor based HVDC and SVC converter valves. Our department has around 30 employees (increasing), focusing mainly on electrical and mechanical design, and works in close collaboration with the global HVDC organization.

Your responsibilities

  • You will be responsible for creating quality plans, which outline testing, inspection and validation processes.
  • Together with the team, you identify and assess potential risks to product quality. You lead design FMEA risk reviews and ensure that Product Special Characteristics are identified and put under variation control.
  • You will support our Supply Quality teams to ensure that suppliers meet quality requirements, and that Product Special Characteristics are accounted for in supplier manufacturing process.
  • You will engage in collaboration with our key suppliers to align our quality plans, and to ensure that risks identified during FMEA at our suppliers are properly reflected in our own FMEA.
  • Together with our Manufacturing and Manufacturing Quality teams, you will ensure that the product meets manufacturing requirements, and that Product Special Characteristics are accounted for in Process FMEAs and Control Plans.
  • You will lead root cause analyses to investigate and determine the root causes of quality issues or defects and collaborate with other teams to implement corrective and preventive actions.

Your background

  • Extensive experience from quality assurance work in product development processes
  • Engineering background with mechanical or electrical engineering profile
  • Experience from the Advanced Quality Planning Approach (from automotive or other industries) and in general good understanding of risk management processes across functions – R&D, Supply, Manufacturing.
  • Ability and good understanding to effectively prepare and run FMEA sessions, including e.g.:
    • Definition of physical and functional product structures in preparation for Design FMEA sessions
    • To lead and guide the teams in efficient Design FMEA sessions
    • Follow up on actions to eliminate or mitigate risk
  • Fluency in root cause analysis methods, such as 8D.
  • Ability and willingness to train and coach teams on quality and risk management methods and tools
  • Passion for Sustainability; self-motivated learner, curious about energy transition and eager to work on impactful technologies.
  • Collaborative and curious team player who is solution-oriented with strong communication skills.
  • Fluency in English as it is required in our global business.
