Description

CME Group’s Corporate Strategy & Business Development division is at the forefront of steering the corporation's strategic trajectory with a keen focus on organic and inorganic growth initiatives. This team works closely with senior leadership across all departments (e.g. Sales, Business Line Management, Technology, Clearing, Legal, Research & Development, FP&A, etc.) to identify short and long-term growth opportunities, as well as solve critical business challenges. Charged with the mission of driving corporate expansion and strategic alignment across CME Group stakeholders, the team excels in the art of crafting, fine-tuning, and delivering recommendations to senior leadership and CME’s Board of Directors. 

This role will assist in framing, analyzing, and recommending choices for the enterprise. The individual will assist in the development of short and long-term strategies for various business areas within the organization by researching, analyzing, and compiling qualitative and quantitative information in a concise and high-quality manner for presentations and discussions with senior management and business leaders. The individual will also be assisting in research and analysis of potential merger & acquisition opportunities, strategic partnerships, and other commercial opportunities.

The Corporate Strategy and Business Development Intern will be expected to take initiative, work independently, and participate in cross-functional teams to produce high-quality work. 

  Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Market Research

    • Gather and analyze qualitative and quantitative data to help senior team members build recommendations for regional and product strategies

    • Support the APAC team by researching industry trends, competitors, and business models to identify new growth and investment opportunities

    • Conduct deep dives into potential partners or M&A targets, focusing on business models and market sizing and assist in the evaluation of joint ventures/commercial partnerships through data modeling and basic financial modeling (analysis could also include Discounted Cash Flows, Trading Multiples, and Comparable Transactions modeling)

  • Business Intelligence

    • Analyze complex datasets to glean insights and transform them into clear charts/dashboards for executive presentations

    • Build and maintain “live” databases for company performance and market benchmarks to ensure the team has real-time insights

  • Cross-Functional Engagement

    • Develop understanding of key products and business functions within CME Group

    • Support the wider team on special projects as they arise

 Technical and Software Requirements:

  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) or Google Workspace required

  • Familiarity with Bloomberg Terminal and/or S&P Capital IQ is a significant plus

  • Proven ability to handle large datasets, perform modeling/optimization and maintain high attention to detail

  • Financial modeling experience is helpful; a natural affinity for data-driven decision-making and problem-solving is essential

  • Relevant coursework in finance, strategy, or data analysis

Professional and Other Requirements:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong analytical skills with a focus on ownership of outcomes

  • A self-starter who thrives in a collaborative team environment and works effectively with others

  • A demonstrated interest in financial or commodity markets and a long-term desire to pursue a career within the financial services industry.

  Education:

  • Minimum GPA of 4.0/5

  • Currently in your penultimate year of study with a strong academic track record in Finance, Business, Accounting, Economics, Math or a relevant program 

  Location and Hours:

  • Internship is local to Singapore

  • Up to 40 hours per week
